Just use common sense here. Look at the condition of the subfloor boards. What are they made of and are they still mostly stiff and flat? If they haven't sagged between the joists in 80 years or so, they're not going to do that now. Although the book says install finish flooring perpendicular to the joists, I would not worry much about that, especially where the subfloor material condition is as I described. Simply make sure that the subfloor is well-attached and sqeak-free.

T&G flooring is nailed through the tongue, so you want to start at the wall /edge which the tongues face. The last boards would have been nailed in from the face with finish nails. You will no doubt spoil these first boards in getting them out. A cat's paw nail puller and a flat bar will be useful in getting the flooring up. The fewer tongues you spoil, the better. 600 sq ft would be a very long day. You would not be able to get the wood ready for transport in that time. You will need to carefully pull all the nails so that they don't damage the face of the wood. If you let the flooring get wet, it will be quite ruined, as it will warp, and the nails will stain. If it's nice wood, it could be quite a nice project, but by the end you alone can judge whether your time was worth it. Casey

Flooring in a mobile home can be problematic. The main frame(metal) supports are placed across the width. The problems start with the subfloor material. The quality and type of subfloor material depends on the year, brand, and model of the mobile home. Very often the subfloor is a form of chipboard(lighter in weight) with no finish. That means water causes swells and glues do not adhere well. That also means the subfloor material will dip between the frame supports and does not support flooring laid in parallel(across the width) with the frame supports. Clearance for extra height flooring can be a problem. Open the entry door 90° to the wall and measure the space between the door and the floor. The total height of the new floor must be less than that distance. Most mobile home doors are a set, door and storm manufactured as a complete unit and made of metal with a lip on the inside of the solid door. Often, the bottom of the doors are so close to the finished floor, there is little or no room to install luaun or other subloor prep materials. The best practice for using plank type flooring is to install underlayment and seam filler(if recommended/required), then the plank flooring parallel to the length of the frame(90° to the width).
