Can you wash a down comforter?
Comments (4)I washed several of them, down and not down, every few months for the last five years. They are great but take a LONG time to dry, way more than one cycle. Tennis balls in the dryer help to fluff it. I would NOT do it in your washer if it is not made for that capacity, however, as overloading can affect your motor. Repairman told me overloading is main cause of washer failure. Anyway, yeah, I wash mine all the time. It works better if you have a high thread count on the cover to prevent feathers coming out....See MoreWhere would you buy a down comforter from?
Comments (34)I bought my first down "blanket" last summer from Tuesday Morning. It would probably be considered light weight. Use it alone during the summer and with a quilt during the winter. I looked at all the messages here and didn't see one person complaining of loose feathers! :o I bought two last summer...the other one is fine, no shedding. The one on our bed sheds something terrible! Feathers all over us, the floor, furniture. Feather's floating around the house. I finally took it back when someone sitting at the dining room table swatted at a feather floating in front of her face! Multiple shakings and washing haven't help. Never saw where they could be escaping. Tues. Morning replaced it. Different brand but looked just like the first. Box stitched with a faint stripe and satin binding. The replacement is just as bad! This was my first experience with goose down. Has this happened to anyone else? I've put up with it because I LOVE the blanket but I'm at the end of my rope. I'll be looking into some of these others. Monica...See MoreDo You Like Fried Potatoes and How do You Like Them
Comments (33)My husband makes the best french fries. He cuts the russet potatoes in rounds....doesn't peel them. Then he cuts them in sticks, so they are about the size and thickness of my little finger. He has a pot of oil, and he dumps them all in at once...which tends to cool the oil a bit, but when the oil reheats and they finish frying, it is like they have been fried twice, which is the real way to make french fries. You fry them, drain them, and then fry them again. They are lightly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I used to always cut my french fries length ways, but after seeing how he does it, I changed to his way. His still taste better than mine. I am another one who loves an electric skillet. I don't think I have ever fried potatoes in one, but I like frying chicken it better than I do using cast iron. And I have over 100 pieces of cast iron cookware. Or, did have. I have given a lot of it away....See MoreBest Down Alternative Comforter
Comments (33)I use a wool mattress pad, which was life changing as far as quality of sleep goes, and live in the deep south. It keeps me cool. I use a sheet and only the duvet cover unless it gets down to the 60s, then I layer with a quilt. So, I have a guest room that is quite cool right now but no cooler than 65ish. Would the wool duvet/comforter be too much? Would it still help regulate temperature or would a wool blanket inside the duvet cover be a better option for my warm climate? For reference, I have a cotton sheet and cotton blanket on there now with latex topper and it was fine for me, but I'm hot most of the time. I'm looking for something for normal people ;)...See Morebiondanonima (Zone 7a Hudson Valley)
