Note: Most designers suggest that you don’t want to a fixture to hang lower than 66 inches above a table. If its hung above an island, you don’t want to be lower than 72. inches.

LED surface mounted lights look just like pot lights and you would not have to replace the bulbs for years. They are a great solution where you do not have room for pot lights. Here is an example but there are cheaper ones out that that work well also.

If you don’t have enough room between your ceiling and your roof, then you do not have room for the required insulation levels. You need to fir down the ceiling height until you do have room for the required insulation levels. Otherwise all of your HVAC money will be going straight out that giant hole in your home’s envelope. And that’s a fatal red tag at resale.
