'Curing process' with dark hardwood - will light affect it???
Comments (6)Cleo_2007 - thanks for the temporary blind info! I've never heard of that, but will definitely be looking into it. Although they might become "permanent" blinds since apparently this renovation is never-ending and I may not care to even replace them - haha! Seaglass7 - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the floors look OK in the end. They almost got every room stained yesterday and then ran out of stain at about 8:00p.m. It's always something! So they first said they wouldn't be back until Monday, but actually showed up this morning, so hopefully at least the first coat of poly will go on later. I can't wait to see it once the poly is on! Your idea of temporary curtains is exactly what I was thinking, and I know what you mean about possibly living with the sheets/towels on the windows for a long time! I've had a sheet over the window in our living room for at least 5 months because there's no way I'm putting up the Roman shade I got for it before all the construction mess is finished! We still have to paint in there also, so no point in putting something up yet, but I feel as if I'm in a fishbowl with nothing covering the window :)...See MoreDark hardwood floors with Dark cabinets? Comments (5)Hi gordongekko, I think Dark Floors and Dark cabinets are lovely together. I think you saw a handful of images from the link Sherriz provided. I am happy to post a few more. What particular style are you putting into your kitchen? A contemporary urban, country, british colonial, romantic, mission craftsman,.... or maybe an electic style of the things you love. Here are few and I hope they are not repeats. ~boxer Cabinet Renovators blue tile Trade 6 Sophisticated Stone HGTV Sacramento Luxury homes Debbie Muses GW Delaware Granite Ik Atelier Cococozy Decorpad Kitchen Studio Center Kitchen Sink Find google image...See MoreDark hardwood vs lighter hardwood floors
Comments (61)When it comes to hardwood, trends are something to ignore! Why? Because hardwood is pretty much a lifetime purchase, and unless yours is damaged in some way, you're probably not going to replace it. So, light wood vs. dark wood, wide planks vs. narrow planks -- that stuff's all going to come and go. With that in mind -- as well as the very real concerns about cleaning dark wood -- I'll vote for a nice, neutral midtone every time. Not too much contrast, not too red, and (unless it's a beach house) not too pale. I think this is the wood that's most likely to give you good service and stand the test of time....See MoreAny tips on getting DARK scratches out of light hardwood floors?
Comments (4)When you have scratches like that, the wood fibers get torn and those microscopic, fuzzy pieces preferentially absorb more stain when the floors are being stained. Once this happens there really isn’t a solution other than sanding the floor down. If this didn’t occur when the floors were stained, it means that something has been applied to the floors after scratches occurred, but the effect is still the same. The only practical solution is to ignore them....See MoreRelated Professionals
