A fan isn't going to be very effective unless you bring it down some, but it might look weird in your space. I wouldn't do white ceilings. Consider a lighter version of the wall paint for the entire upper structure if you are staying neutral. White is going to pop it too much I think.

Maybe a very soft white, but then it seems like you'd have to do the bottoms of the soffits too.

In the first picture I posted at the very top, you can see they used white ceiling in the non-tray area. You can mix it up.

yes you can,,,and depending how long the rod is, you may need to lengthen it.

as for painting, perhaps this will give you some ideas.

trim work is very nice looking for the transition from the wall to the ceiling joint.

I hate the brown, but gives you an idea. this ceiling doesn't seem to be as high as yours

Like that you used three windows and sidelights for the door in this room. The natural light will be a definite plus.

Use an extension rod for the ceiling fan so the blades are below the tray but above the windows and it should look and work fine.

I would NOT want a white tray ceiling. If you use a pastel for your walls, you could use the same color for the ceiling or a slightly lighter shade of the same color.

If you choose a tan or off white or beige, do avoid any with a pink or yellow hue -- makes choosing colors for furnishings and window coverings problematic.

Just wanted to mention that whatever color you paint the angled sides, the color will appear different than the flat vertical or horizontal walls painted the same color.

Patricia...how would this be "addressed" at this point in the process? Rip off the drywall and replace the roof trusses? It is not really what I envisioned on the plan...didn't expect it to be quite as deep of a tray...and thought the sides would be straight not slanted but I'll have to just trust our builder at this point. Here is what it appeared like on our house plan...and a pic of one in another build he did.

I wanted to make sure everyone knew which post was I was referring to before it was edited or deleted. Critical, unhelpful comments are hurtful to people who come here asked for help.

And while I have your ear, have you thought about the fact that people google your name before deciding to hire you? If that is your real name, these kind of harsh comments cannot be good for business.
