Comments (14)No? I'm not sure I understand the concept of the word 'No". LOL. The upside of being a newbie to this addiction is that having only 30 or so named hosta at this point leaves me wide open for many, oh so many, more. Or is that a down side.. :) Then there's the catalogs.... so far I've ordered about 8; only about 1/2 of those were on my wish list ... the others.. well, it was a moment of weakness and I just couldn't resist. As Ken said.. if it's free... I was looking at purchasing some fruit trees this weekend when I happened to overhear a husband say something to his wife about hosta. My ears went on alert and I asked the gentleman if he'd seen some at the nursery... did I miss them?. His wife said no and that they had purchased a home last spring and it is full of hosta that she wants gone....seeing my interest she asked if I cared to dig them all up. YES, YES, YES, I said. So in about 4-5 weeks, if the ground is thawed, I will be knee deep in happy. Addiction ... what addiction... I'm in total control. Alexis...See MoreHosta Forum - Newbie Meet and Greet
Comments (39)Hi all! I'm Michelle from Saskatchewan and I'm very new to this forum. Started out searching on the computer for hosta problems and like somebody else said was always directed to this site. For two weeks I just read what people posted and then I decided it was time to join. Everybody on here has been so helpful to me, because I had or maybe still have the dreaded HVX virus. Very disheartening. I've always liked gardening somewhat but was mainly annuals in containers. I have pine trees in my yard and never knew what to do there. We dug a pond and what do you do with all the extra dirt?? Shoved it under the pine trees and decided to make flower beds. That was maybe four years ago. Hostas caught my eye and I bought a few and some ferns and coral bells etc. The hostas have now taken over my life as I can't get enough. I was the kind of person that just bought what looked good at box stores and nurseries here. Now that I caught the darn HVX I will not do that anymore. I am into the collecting of different names now even though I have MANY with no names from the start. I have also learned on here that in my Zone I can plant more hostas in the sun. Annie posted about squishiness and hard to plant far apart, well I am kind of like her too. Ive planted small hostas too close to one another and as they get more mature its obvious I have to move to a new location. Ahhh but its so much fun. I have over 250 hostas in my backyard and still growing with new varieties and hostas I don't have which is many. Love the hostas, love the forum and all the friendly people that have given me great advice....See MoreHostaholics give me a number
Comments (58)Well, I am a hostaholic, and my name is Debra..... I am no way as sick as the rest of you. I started hostas in 1992 when a friend turned me on to them because of my shady yard. I was able to control myself, in the beginning, but little by little the addiction grew. I stared digging up more and more grass to plant hostas. Then I got Bert (many of you know he is my enabler who digs and plants for me) and I had he and his son dig up the front yard for a bed. Every year the beds get enlarged because I buy more hostas even though each time I buy one, I tell my husband “this is the last one!” (Yeah, right) But I must say, because I live on a city lot, I certainly don’t have as many as the rest of you sickos—— over a hundred, but some of those are duplicates. I plan to replace duplicates with new varieties, so overall, I think I am doing ok in my recovery! (all comments made here are with tongue in cheek!...See MoreKarin Black Cat
