Looking for Pottery Barn style of rod/shelf for hanging clothes
Comments (10)Sorry, stbonner, but that link brings up a blank page. I've looked through Ballard Designs but haven't seen anything that I could hang up to 10 or more items of clothing on hangers. I envision a white contemporary shelf with a rod below for hanging clothes. I saw it once in an ad for something else (washer, dryer, ?) but never sold by itself. It could even be a small long cabinet with a rod below. If that can't be found, even a collapsible rod (no shelf necessary) would work. It would be out of the way when not in use. However, it cannot be any deeper than one row of clothing. The type of racks on Ballard's don't work for me as they stick out into the room far too much....See Morehanging a table/pendant from a rod
Comments (3)Do you mean a rod that spans the entire space or one that is connected to only one wall? If the latter, you might be fighting the law of physics. A light with any weight on the end of a long rod like that would probably pull the rod downward and either pull it out of the wall or bend it, unless you have some pretty substantial bracing in the wall. As far as the chandelier wire cutting across the view from the balcony, we have this in our dining room, which has an upstairs gallery/balcony on one side and very tall windows on the other. You really don't notice the chain -- in fact, in a way, it ties the space together. I think a horizontal rod would be more intrusive....See MoreHow High Should we Hang Curtain Rods on an 8 ft Ceiling
Comments (3)Curtains generally look best if they are hung high and wide. Stock sizes of curtains are usually 84" or 95" long. Measure up from the floor to figure out where 84 will land in relation to your window. If 84 is too short, you'll have to use 95. 95 might be a little cramped by the ceiling but they will look better than panels that are too short. If you are crafty, you could hem the 95s or add some fabric to the 84s. Make sure your curtains appear wide enough to cover the windows even if you don't plan on closing them. You don't want them to look too skimpy. Here is a good graphic about curtains. I like all the advice except the pooling suggestion....See MoreShould I hang my curtain rod close to ceiling?
Comments (8)@Jan Moyer We are building a guest house with 10’ ceilings and i am planning to install outside mount woven shades and sheers as in your mockup photo. I have 2 more days to do any additional blocking for shades and curtain rods. see photo i planned to hang rods about 9” from ceiling in case we later add crown moulding Question 1: is this height ok? 2. Is this enough blocking? or need more? 3. For nearby kitchen and mudroom windows, should they also be outside mounted to provide the most light ? or since they wont have sheers, should they be inside mounted? thanks!...See Morepartim
