Comments (22)I could recommend a few tweaks to the layout, if these were individually-built box cabinets. From what I can see, though, they are very solid job-built custom cabinets. These are so much nicer and better quality than the standard builder grade cabinets used most of the time now. I agree with those who say just change the minor things for now, and save up for a total renovation after you live with it for awhile....See MoreHelp: Family room furniture layout with off centered fireplace
Comments (22)Thank you for all your suggestions! All were great ideas! So this is what Im going to try. Leave the current setup in front of the TV and just bring the sofa in a bit more to make space for sofa table and then creating another seating area with 2 chairs flanking the fireplace. Also move the chaise near the bar with a floor lamp. Perfect! One last question, should i place a small rug in front of the fireplace area( maybe a round one) or leave it?...See MoreStumped by Corner Fireplace in Long, Skinny Living Room - Please Help!
Comments (14)Before you can decide on seating you need to design based on a balance of what you need every day, what you need when you have guests, how often you need the additional seating and the activities that will be done when you need the additional seating. Example: Typically I have 2 people watching TV or playing board games in the evening. About once every two weeks I have 4 people. A 5 person sectional with an additional chair works for both board games or TV. About once every 2 months I will host dinner for my siblings and spouses - then I have 10 people, but the girls usually hang in the kitchen, dining room and the guys go watch TV. Still works. About once a year I have the whole family over for some kind of function. That will be 30 people. I didn't plan my seating for 30. I have a couple of rooms that have seating and we end up a bit scattered. I have enough seating if people use the livingroom, dining room, sitting room and I pull extra chairs that I have in the bedrooms and store in the basement. We just kind of muddle through. In the two years that I have lived here I have not once needed more than 6 seats for watching a movie. My sister entertains a lot and has a large number of guests at one time on a regular basis. She has a great room with a dining table that seats 12, bench seating under her window wall that butts against her corner fireplace, a 4 person couch with a chaise plus 3 recliners and another small bench that she will place in front of the fireplace and an ottoman that can go in front of the TV for addional seating. She also has several shallow boxes that fit over her TV so that it looks like wall art instead of a TV. Knowling your needs really helps define the amount and type of seating you need....See More60s green stone fireplace
Comments (32)Thanks to all of your suggestions I have found the right inspiration for that room. I think my pallet for the wall will be a light gray/blue - something to match the colors of the stone in the fireplace. Keeping the stone intact. 🤗 I’ll be adding a light wood mantel. I will also add a custom long cushion that wraps around the hearth - to make it kid safe. I’ll add one or two green accent chairs, and either golden, black or wooden accents like a lamps, coffee tables, pillos, etc. I have a dark brown sectional that I think will go well down there, too. Moving date is not until the end of April, so I’ll add the finish photos in May or so. 🤗...See Morealox45
