small kitchen how do I make it feel bigger

I have to change the cabinet but don't know if I should go lighter like gray or off white or go darker am sure I want to extend the breakfast area a little I need help

I understand what you're trying to accomplish, but personally I wouldn't want to give up space in my living area. There are other ways you could layout your LR furniture so that you could enjoy the view thru the slider and it would save you moving the fireplace and adding another window. I see you have a large window on the left wall and if this is a TV watching area I would hesitate adding more windows. Keep in mind that moving the fireplace would not be a minor expense and I'm not sure adding a jog in the hallway next to the kitchen would be an improvement. How old is 'kiddo' and how much time does he/she spend in the room? Is it possible to set up the 3rd bedroom as a playroom or study instead of trying to make the BR larger? If the ceiling is the main annoyance I suggest you change the ceiling. Have a contractor check out why it's built as it is and see if you can't change the ceiling line to a vaulted one.

Thanks Ranton and Christina. The stucco repair is somewhat less of an issue since its on a side of the house that no one would really see so that would not need to be perfect. At a minimum raising the existing window will create this work. My short term goal is to end up with three different plans and compare the pros and cons between them; counter space, cabinet volume, function and cost. Lisa - I see great benefit to moving that exterior door I would just need to consider the cost aspect. As far as the large window, that would be great, but I do not have an attractive view on that side of the house. I essentially look at my neighbors house and driveway which is very narrow. Pic shows my neighbors driveway on the left, my kitchen window looks over their driveway and their own kitchen window. Very narrow and not a great view. This was my thought on walling up the window since I have no real view, but natural light and fresh air is also important.

HU, it is not the container that make the figs bigger, a larger container such as a 25g will produce a larger Plant as the container will support a larger root system. Some fig strains naturally have bigger figs while other fig types have smaller figs. Think of mulberry fruit some types are naturally bigger than others. You can experiment by pruning the ends of your fruiting branches and pruning any new shoot growth immediately from said branch to limit the fruit set and most likely the figs on branch may grow slightly larger but at the cost of less fruit to eat. As for potting mix you will get many different answers to that question some make their own , at my age i prefer to buy name brand potting mixes such as Pro Mix and once in a while add lime and also fertilizer. Suggest creating an on line room planner and test configurations. Hopefully you are buying pieces and not trying to make your things work, as the pieces you choose will make a big difference (also suggest keeping them light). Take advantage of upper right corner for desk. On the wall to its left, take advantage of vertical space or if adding a TV/needing a surface, see below. Look for narrow pieces to allow more space at foot of bed. Bed under window and probably only one nightstand. Hard to tell what might fit on the left side of room; if possible, add a smaller scaled chairs vs recliner and a pouff that can double time as a side table/be stored under chair and used as an ottoman. May have play around with best location.

I would encourage you to take advantage of the layout help here. There are some amazingly talented and generous people who will make sure you get the best possible layout for your space and needs--for free! I have remodeled three different kitchens with this forum and each one has been better because of the input I got here.

As far as pure looks, I think low contrast helps make a space look bigger. So for example one combination is white cabinets, white appliances, light countertop, white backsplash. i will also say that properly sized appliances can make a small ktichen look and work better. Our first kitchen was tiny and the previous owner had shoehorned in a regular refrigerators. Switching out to a great smaller one made the kitchen a 100 times better.

I think that even with the dark counters, just painting the cabinets white will make the room brighter & so seem larger. White cabinets with dark counters is a classic look. Find ways to cut down the clutter on the counters, also.

If you are going to tear out and replace the cabinets, then I strongly encourage you to ask for design/layout help here.
