DeMille, i think ... the fact that you did not plant it under the rock.. is a good indication that it is a weed.. which is defined as ANYTHING you dont want in your yard ... let me guess.. how far from the bird feeder??? it will slice you open like there is no tomorrow .. its one of the mean ones .. or really hurt kids feet if stepped on .. but if that can be avoided... it is a truly marvelous show in fall.. when the finches go nuts over it.. hanging upside down to get at it all ... your choice.. ken

I have no idea how it got there. Thanks for telling me about it. I sort of like it, but I will have to move it because it is in an area that interferes with walking (behind the diving board of our pool). I, again, can't figure out how it got there, because last year was the first year I saw it and we built the house eight years ago.

THANK YOU ALL. Yes, the flower of Erigeron (I think this is Annual rather than Daisy Fleabane) looks very familiar to me and I think I've seen it in the yard before. I found a good photo of the leaf on the web and it looks just like what I have. Interesting that it's a native species. Thanks very much.

I live in eastern Washington in a desert region. This year I have noticed some new weeds popping up in a few bare areas in my lawn. I sprayed some with broadleaf plus crabgrass herbicide and it was unaffected. I also noticed a few patches of lawn that appeared lighter in color than the surrounding grass, upon further inspection I think the weeds in the lighter areas and in the bare spots are the same. I would really like go have a decent lawn this year, please help!
