The directions

You basically bury a small amount of money on New years eve and dig it up on New years day and it is supposed to help have unexpected money come to you, not by any unpleasant means but by unexpected means. In other words not by a death and inheritance. It has happened each year for us, sometimes large amounts some times small.

So this is what you do. New years eve anytime before midnight you take your money, I use a dollar bill because you can never spend this money, you can donate it but not spend it. So take the dollar bill, I put mine in a ziploc baggie, and take your spoon or trowel and dig a hole outside in the dirt or in a flower pot if you don't have a yard. As you dig you say I am burying my poverty I am burying my misfortune. Put the dollar or money in the hole and cover it up. I leave my trowel there so I remember where it is.

You are done for today.
On New Year's day(anytime before midnight) you go back out and dig it up, as you dig it up you say I am uncovering my wealth and my good fortune. Take the money and put it away never to be used.
I have a baggie full of the dollar bills I have used. I will donate them when I have a nice amount. Just remember you can not spend that money. Never reuse it.

That is it all done. Sometime in the following new year you should unexpectedly get some money.

I too will be burying the money. Only to dig it up and not use it on the 1st LOL. I'll donate it right away. We have no dollar bills anymore so I will be using a Canadian one dollar coin called a loonie. It seems weird that it won't be a bill . Still it is money after all:-).

We do this and after we dig it up, we put the money in our grandkids piggy bank.

We're looking forward to doing this again this year, as we have the past several years. The money is in a baggie to be donated. The rule is it has to be given away, and you can't re-use the money.

Angela I never heard of this before. The way my luck has been recently, think I'll give it a try. After all, there's nothing to lose and it will be fun for the kiddos.

It does not matter how deep I just do it deep enough to cover and them leave my spoon on top so I can find it.

I bury mine in a snow bank. Maybe not this year. There might not be enough snow. So it might be a flower pot this time.

What if you need something besides money? Can you bury something else?

No, money can buy a lot lol. But it hasn't worked for better health.

How would one bury ones good health, even if only overnight ...

... in the back garden?

Or even .,.. in a flowerpot, if that's the only dirt-based system available?

When I looked for my New Years bag of money, I found 2. Not sure why I have two. One contains a dollar, the other a dollar bill and some loose change. Maybe one is my bounty for the New Year, or maybe Raven's landed in my drawer. So now what do I do. - choose one to bury, consolidate, or bury two?

I have buried mine. DH bought a power ball ticket. I bet I know who will be more successful!

I have never heard of this practice before but I am certainly going to try it!! Still pitch dark here but will be out in the garden later today with trowel in one hand and $$ in the other! Can't hurt and I could sure use an unexpected windfall of any size :-)

FWIW, other wealth-inducing practices/totems like my Chinese Feng Shui money frog have not ever produced noticeable results...........

Just checked near foundation of house and still soft enough so I can bury the money. Surprised me as our temps have been so cold. Zero right now.

I guess I'm just not superstitious enough in that way. Those who are, have fun.

happy2b you can not reuse the money you previously buried so it does not matter that you have 2 bags. to be safe donate both.

I've done it two years in a row, first year I found a total of about $90 in bills on the ground but this year I didn't have any money come unexpectedly....although now that I think about it, my sister gave me some money for my birthday, first time EVER! :) I better get busy and bury some moolah.

I've never tried it and found "3" $50 bills in the last 12 months! One laying in the lawn of a house I'd just purchased. Blew in from somewhere...? Two in a pocket of a fishing vest DH purchased @ the thrift store.

So this year I'm trying it for the 1st time. Stay tuned.....:0)

I just buried money for the first time - ever. I figure: why not? Nothing to lose. :) I also buy the occasional lottery ticket. haha

Mine is buried. I did the money burial last year and although I didn't find much cash, I did have a good year.

I have buried it in the snow too. I just buried it in some potting soil now.

Buried it just a bit ago. Took me all of about 17 seconds - it's below zero out there and I shoved it down in a pot that's holding a fall arrangement of dried hydrangeas and cedar boughs.

It worked for me this year.

Hubby buried a dollar for us this afternoon. Now to remember to dig it up tomorrow.

I just buried mine - first time, although I've heard of this before. Since it's at least 20 below outside I used a potted plant - spathiphyllum (peace lily). I hope the amount buried isn't proportionate to any potential windfall. :)

I buried mine. I also can't find the dollar I buried last year, so I guess it floated away in the flood. When I dig mine up, and go to the feed store on Tuesday, I am going to take it and put it in the jar that they have for donations to a horse rescue. That way I don't have to worry about losing it.

Joining the fun. I dumped whatever change I had in my wallet into a zip lock and went and buried it :-)

No worries! Plenty of snow to bury mine in. I left the shovel on top. I buried a 10 this year. Last year was good. I need a bit over $5,000 for the new roof, a bit less than $2,000 to take out 2 old trees, $1700 for some duct work, my truck.. possibly a funeral for that :-( and the list goes on.

I buried the money for the first time this NYE. I do believe it worked. While I didn't receive a bunch of money, I did receive great (to me) fortune. DS needed extensive dental work and received an estimate of $5,400. While wondering how I/we would pay for it, I suggested he call insurance company for guidance. They very nicely changed his dental plan so our dentist is a participating provider and his out-of-pocket expense is now only $700!! Like I said, we didn't receive a bunch of money but our good fortune increased by $4,700. I like to think burying the money was responsible.

Maybe it DID work! I had $72 deposited to a little used savings account I maintain at a local credit union. I have a Visa card with them that I seldom use except to pay for our gym membership billed to this card each month and then auto-paid from my main checking account. Well they switched to a dollar-for-dollar rebate last year. I did charge a fairly large amount one month which I had repaid immediately too. So I guess it paid off.

Also I applied for Social Security and started getting those payments in Jan 3. I even will be getting a rebate from OPM in Feb since my previous Medicare payments were coming out of that retirement check and I essentially paid twice in January. The rep at the SSA told me it would work that way and it has! Plus my Medicare amount due has been reduced since my retirement.

I think mine is paying off! My fortune and luck have decidedly changed for the better! Plus finding the great deal on my new furniture. I guess money too since I just signed a contract to sell my house.

Outside could you explain further about OPM having anything to do with your Medicare as the payments for Medicare come out of your SS. Did you mean it came out of your pension. Also retired fed and know somethings are changing.

Yes, my Medicare payments were coming out of my CSRS pension, so now that I have started drawing SS, it will be drawn from the SS account rather than the CSRS pension account. Make sense? If you aren’t under the old CSRS, things may be different for you.

That is the difference. The people that I knew that were in the CSRS system paid directly rather than having it taken out of their pension or at least that was what they told me.

We just got a payback of 263 dollars for a denied FSA claim that we had to pay back to that account. Hubby had an abdominal ct and the billing from the hospital was weird. They asked for a 14 dollar payment at the time, then billed us for the rest including the 14 dollar credit. The total didn't match so the FSA denied it. There was no itemized bill so I had to request it from the hospital, then flooded the FSA with receipts with my bubble comments all over the PDFs.

Now that I've written all that, I realize that I worked pretty hard for that one :-)

What Outside is describing will happen to anyone who begins Medicare coverage before starting Social Security. For those not getting some kind of government pension, Medicare has to be paid in advance, quarterly. So thinking of calendar quarters, imagine you paid in Dec-Jan for the Jan-March coverage period. Your Social Security benefits, from which Medicare is always deducted, start for the month of February and so February and March Medicare premiums have been paid twice. Medicare refunds the overpayment promptly. There's no bonus, a double payment gets refunded.

I'm going to bury the money again next New Years! I got an email from our credit union, that it's customer loyalty time, and they've deposited $XXX in our account. Sweet!!! It's not an enormous windfall, but it's free money!

We've received more than $300 in "found money" this year. Was it because we buried money? Probably not, but hey....

We get a $25 gift card from Loblaws because of price-fixing on bread products. They're sending out thousands of gift cards to Canadians. :-)

Hubby and I bought each other a couple of gift packs of lottery tickets for Christmas. (we play $6 of tickets every week). So far we've won consistently, haven't had to put out any of our own money yet from that initial prize pack.

I love hearing positive stories. It sure isn't hurting anyone and it gives a smile! We got a refund check from a previous co-op we belonged to some years ago.

I just got $348.00from the hospital,cause they decided I was over charged on services.

Since our ground is frozen here, I buried the money in a potted house plant that died shortly thereafter. I don't see much good coming from that. Oh, well.
