The ceiling tiles will have to stay for now, but we will be replacing the fan with a new light fixture as soon as I can find one that doesn't hang too low. sis2two: Thanks for the color suggestions, I'll take a look at those. LOL olychick. I told my husband people would laugh at his sock, flipflop combination...he just laughed. His socks look like blue in the pic, but they are actually grey. tinan: My husband is out of work, but there is some budget for this. We have no mortgage or debt, and have some savings, so we're okay, just don't want to go crazy (I'm not much of a spender anyway) I should have said, the room is cluttered right now, and has things in it that shouldn't be there. The table in front of the TV is actually a stool we've been standing on for doing the sheetrock, so won't be staying. The bench in front of the window is actually the over the fridge cabinet from the kitchen! It won't be staying either. I actually don't like a lot of clutter, although I have to admit, I'm not an overly tidy person either :) I have ordered some white curtains from Ikea, they should be here next week. The angled bookcase was originally in our dining room. When we moved the bookcase to the living room we just threw some binders on. I have the books all piled up in the sunroom ready to go on after painting the room. My dh is pretty adamant that bookshelves have books, not decorative items on them! I agree mostly, though I do like a little variation. My wonderful dh actually finds the shelf full of binders very relaxing! We are both avid readers, don't have many visitors, and our home is where we spend most of our time. We have been thinking about putting in a window seat on the north window. We have to redo that entire wall as it is covered in ugly diagonal paneling! Thanks for all the suggestions so far. The only things that need to stay are: the couch (it's a small 2 seater),the arm chair, the rocking chair, the bookcases (by the window),the tv stand, and some sort of coffee or end table.

ceiling mount hardware would allow for something to slide back and forth-little clips/rings that fit into a slide suspended from ceiling. Anything that rolls up and down will have some stack-between the stack and the lack of space at the top it just might look awkward. However, go look at levolor or bali,etc and see what is out there with minimal stack-I think that's the issue.

Thanks for the visual Okibujp. The room is approx. 22' X 17'. The room is an addition, the opening to the room is from the kitchen and is about 9'. I am thinking it was once a sliding door to the outside. We have left the kitchen open, without a table. I am wondering if it would be awkward to come through the large opening to the back of the couch? Fenstermann, I love the idea of an inside mount shade, however they will not work for the type of windows we have. I do feel like it is a shame to cover the molding we just had painting, which is why we have left the windows alone. I am just looking for a little privacy once the trees drop leaves and we do not have coverage. Patricia, I love blues and thought the cognac would go nicely. Regarding the solar shades, they would need to be outside mount. How would you do that with the far windows, with the curved top window and also draperies? In your experience, would leather fade without the solar shades? Thanks again for your input!

All of your choices are nice and the floral is pretty. I am not clear on whether this will be for drapes and/or shades. The two smaller windows look like they are more candidates for shades or blinds versus drapes. Plus there appears to be a fireplace in the center of those two windows - and the whole setup there really doesn’t seem to have adequate room for drapery panels; at least not for adequate panels. You would like a sort of laid back, welcoming feel to the space and you are in California. I would recommend something along the lines of bamboo shades on all the windows, or maybe woven wood type shades or blinds - there are lots of great textures and styles in those. You could also go with some simple Roman shades. But the idea is - something neutral/open/airy on the windows - and then bring in some pattern and maybe a touch of more vibrant color in pillows and other accessories. I don’t know if you are planning on art for the space - but that could have color, also. But it could also be black and white photographic art - maybe a gallery wall. Or metal or fabric art. Whatever art you love and I really do not see art as an accessory. Art is art. Below: Not your color scheme here - but all the throw pillows + the throw could work with your colors and design.
