Petunias, haven't grown any on the side for years, think that's what they are. If they don't put up a bud fairly quickly, I'm pulling them because they might be weeds. The oddest thing happened. I cut back some bridal wreath a few days ago because it was starting to hang too much over a new rose, put it in a separate pile by my big tree in back. Yesterday I found some in the street, threw it on the regular wood pile which appears undisturbed this am, and see that all the trimmings are gone, enough for one or two bundles for yard waste pickup. Who would want them and why? Maybe someone was helping me out, but that stuff would have been easier for me to bundle that some branches I have to cut to the proper length and tie. Also I put 3 rebar stakes for a temp cage to hold leaves just under my dining room windows last fall. One stake has turned up missing, and I pounded it in really hard. All roses accounted for.

Hey Purple, There's a lot of succulents one can grow w/out any spikes (which I do not allow in my house at all). Gasterias, Haworthias, Aloes, Sansevierias (how could I almost forget them?) various types of Crassulas, lots to choose from. Yet some Euphorbia miliis (Crown of Thorns) have spikes (thorns really & oddly enough they've wormed their way into my collection). I've got 4 or 5 of these in total now, just left a large one out in my bldg's laundry (before the Hurricane), & didn't think anyone would mess w/ it 'cause of its thorns (like those of a rose). It was getting too big for my place anyway, & someone swiped it pretty fast. I had pruned it into very nice shape. It was a stingy bloomer of yellow flowers (bracts really), wasn't even blooming & someone swiped it!!

Cool your willing to use a make shift gritty mix. May want to sift some of the peat materail from the BBS bagged C&S soil as well. What remains after sifting is some darker bark pieces that looks like a finer mulch and some forest humus. Useable yield may vary, would think one bag of BBS unsifted bag O'crap should yield enough for all of them. You could also ( with some extra time on your hands) pick up a bag of orchid bark smaller size is better but any size will work from a BBS as well . After soaking them in warm water for a while the chunks will be eaiser to ( by hand) break it into smaller barkier pieces. Prior to sifting any especialy for Perlite I'd suggest to use some sort of mask for beathing protecing. Big drainage hole ? As in orchid pot drainage hole big ? The demo pic is a bit off. less humor or more fun ? Blue arrows. look sort of good as ASAP potting candidates for some practice for you but if me I'd cut them for newer cleaner root. Red lines suggest cutting them for re rooting and potted later Purple circle I'm Sort of mixed on this one. It can go either way. Bigger can survive longer but adapts more slowly.

Rina, It was over fed when it was really young, had been three times this size but all branches were very lanky and limp, attempted braiding them but lost 2 to previous over watering, this was probably around 2008. It since suffered a lot of leaf loss due to dwelling in a high traffic zone with a careless roommate who also introduced mealy bugs to it just before it was relocated in April. The plant lost some additional leaves to that battle, thanks to alcohol swabs and constant diligence there has been no recurrence over the past 2 months. I was happily surprised to see leaf buds on the balding branches, are there techniques to further promote this? I wish I had more space to work on maintaining my plants over the past 7yrs but I did not, so now I get to try to revive them... Honestly this is the only surviver who needs rehab, my aloe just needed its spawn relocated and soil replenished, my Christmas cactus which is almost older than me has always been full but looks happier every day, and a previously barren stump of a Plumeria has new branches loaded with leaves as wide as my hand and long as my forearm. I always wished this Jade had a thicker trunk but never would have dreamed of such an extreme cut back. It is in very well draining soil, has been happily self propogating, the branches are sturdy yet resiliant now. I have always enjoyed its unusual contorted branching, though it makes transportation difficult and rotation for sun exposure challenging for sure. I have every intention of following Al's advice for getting and keeping my flora at its happiest and healthiest- great advice! EZ, Thanks, it used to be an auto dealership in a bygone era.. I am currently sitting in an automobile sized elevator that is now my personal studio space for all things artsy, craftsy or otherwise in need of mcguivering.. wood panel walls, corregated steel floors. Repotting while standing at a table and having easy access to an industrial prep sink in a mostly bug free, climate controlled environment has me not missing the backaches associated with outdoor gardening. .. Maybe one of these days the only pest I'll have to worry about will be the large orange furry variety, we call ours Dr OJ Irving, Julius for short, he too is over fed and lanky.
