Strange happenings with hard pruned jade

Hello! I've never seen this before so looking for some insight!

About a month ago I acquired a large ugly Hobbit jade. It showed signs of low light and under watering in its past, so I decided to hard prune it now instead of waiting for spring. It really needed a fresh start!

Anyway, I just noticed that parts of the branches are popping off clean at the "seams", just shy of where I cut. I've never seen such a thing, nor come across it in my readings. Has anyone ever seen this? What the heck is it doing? Cleaning itself up before sprouting new leaves I hope! The branches and trunk are nice and firm, everything seems good otherwise..

For reference it is in a very sunny and warm room with a south facing window. The winter sun is coming right in the window every day.
