Virtually every finish goes with stainless steel appliances. I think you should definitely get a spot resistant finish when available for any hardware that will be touched frequently, as it will significantly cut down on the amount of cleaning you have to do. In terms of actual faucet color, I'm going to assume that you're referring to brushed or satin nickel or steel when you say "stainless steel". If that's the case, it's your choice depending on the overall effect you're going for. Brushed/satin finishes tend to read as more modern, but used effectively, chrome finishes can do this too. What look are you going for and what color is the other hardware in your kitchen?

I made this choice with a spot-resistant finish in my faucets in both kitchen and bathrooms. Wasn't sure how effective it would be, but it makes everyday cleanup really simple. No water marks even though we have somewhat hard water - I've been pleasantly surprised. And all the rest of my hardware - handlesets, towel bars, hinges, etc. - is satin nickel, so bright chrome didn't make sense to me in either space. Glad I kept it a little softer and don't have to chase down water spots any longer.

Everything including the hinges to cabinet pulls are brushed nickle or stainless steel. (I was told they are basically the same color). Just wasnt sure why 80% of my plumber said people go with shiny chrome. Chrome is a lot cheaper. That's the only reason that would make sense for me to see why one would choose it if everything is ss or brushed nickle.

Most people chose chrome because it's cheaper and it's more widely available. Anything works with SS, think of it as a neutral like denim. Spot resistant can be worth it, but doing a quick wipe down also isn't too hard so completely up to you.
