Very dark north facing DR. Is there a rule with paint colors?
Comments (53)I took some photos but don't know if I will ever get them posted. Plus the lighting was bad because I just shot them without any adjustments with off indoor lighting. It was an upscale old folks home where my uncle lives. The whole place appeared to have been designed by a very smart and capable decorator. Everything was color coordinated on all the floors, although each had a unique personality. But the whole thing was designed to give off a warm. cozy and upscale vibe. Problem for me using it would be that none of my things would match those colors. I have that "northwoods" color scheme going with maroon, blueberry, taupe, brown, forest green, tan, plum and sage. It'll be interesting to see how I pull off blending my mom's "spring/fall" color palette with my "winter/summer" one. I can use her colors if the intensity and tone is right. For example, I am fine with dark rust, watermelon or terra cotta but peach is death for me....See MoreSherwin Williams wall color for north facing kitchen and living
Comments (15)That’s exactly what I’m looking for-warmth without going yellow. I’m sure you’ve read about the northern light adding a chilling effect to the room. What’s the reason for not using BM? My contractor said they prefer BM but would be willing to use a different brand if we wanted to, and I am having a hard time selecting the main color in BM (I have tons of sample paint already). SW has paint consultants that charge you to come out and help select your paint colors and then reduce that charge when you buy the paint. I haven’t heard of that with BM so I am trying to hire a paint consultant to help me. Or hiring an SW consultant and just have them match the BM paint to an SW color. Paint is a big decision! I’m putting in a white oak flooring as well....See MoreHELP! Paint the ceiling aqua in north facing rooms?
Comments (8)You have to look at the color on the ceiling. Light will hit it differently. It is also likely to go over ceiling texture and paint differently, but testing it on poster board or heavy paper is a good place to start. I went through a number of tests before I got the blue for our BR ceiling. And I can't tel you what it was now. I think we might have started with a can from the store and remixed after seeing it directly on the ceiling -- I do that kind of thing. I thing any of those second group and all of the first except the second from the top could look good. You need to pick one that will go well with the other things you put in the room. An aqua can be more limiting and may seem more seasonal....See MorePaint advice for north/west facing living room + kitchen
Comments (1)Why do you feel you need to consider colors that you dont like? Houses are to be enjoyed by the people that live there. You dont have to be trendy. Personally, I dislike anything tan, or beige, greige or green, so no matter how trendy, I wouldnt use them anywhere in my house. I do like gray, but that gray paint must look gray, and if any undertones, they must be blue, not the purple or green that some grays have. Put colors on your wall, that appeal to you, and that will make you smile. I use a lot of turquoise in different shades, because it makes me happy. Apparently, it makes others happy too, since I recently had someone tell me, they liked coming in my house, and found themselves staying longer than they meant to because, the colors make them happy and make them feel good....See MoreRelated Professionals
