I remember this app/site offered some sort of help ... I seem to keep buying stuff online or @ stores and still not making sense of my new place... issue is that is ONE BIG room very square so I have to have both living room and small dining are together.. place came in w a mounted TV that it doesn't help much to set it up.. I could share some pictures if needed ? can someone help or direct me whats the best to get some experts advice?

So far I purchased a very large sectional (after seeing it @ home i wasn't crazy abut it) but oh well I cant return it like a pair of pants... Color is charcoal

I also bought a Celine Rough 8x10 from the Room Place

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Al :)

Do you have any art for the back of the sofa? any large canvas prints or anything? I think your sofa and rug is fine, but very neutral. bringing in some color and prints w/pillows, artwork would help.

or go w/the black and white,,

those white blinds do nothing. perhaps a woven wood blind like these in gray

    or some roman blinds

or bring in some dramatic color w/cellular blinds like pictured here: (try blinds.com)

as for the tv wall,,,please remove the chair rail. It has absolutely no purpose and does not work w/your look. lower the tv a tad and find something to corral those cords. (if you know how to run them down the inside of the wall, do that)

That step thing underneath it is far to small and too low. get a proper media cabinet. Since you lean more modern, find a vintage dresser or credenza in wood, or paint it a glossy white or black

this floating type of cabinet would work well and fit nicely in that space.

this one is actually an IKEA hack. BESTA cabinet w/flooring as the doors

    called the 'fauxdenza'

As for that large wood piece you have,,,you didn't post a great pic of it so I don't know what to tell you there. can you paint it black?

So yeah I want to get some art for back of sofa ...but I figure those were the last touchups.. after deciding theme or color palette I'd buy large art or I was even thinking of mounting an electric fireplace/screen too... Blinds not realty planing on have them down..as I have a pretty awesome view o the lake:)

Yep planning on buying a proper media center (but again wanted to ask for some advice before I keep buying and spending my money)

Lastly it's a Buddhist Altar (I have attached a better picture here) and yes I'm not totally crazy about the color but it was a gift and I there you go I have it...

Thank you so much Beth H, in advance for your time and advice. I truly appreciate it!!!

    Best,

    Al:)

Looks like your sectional will work well in the space. The chaise side along the windows will be a perfect spot for a cup of coffee, glass of wine, reading or just an afternoon nap. You could add a pair of comfortable chairs to the side opposite the windows. Swivels would be nice for watching the t.v. or enjoying the fire but could then be turned to face the sectional for conversation as well. Something in a beige or camel leather would be nice. Definitely a cozy area rug. Congratulations on both your new lake home and your retirement!

I think you need to post a real picture of the room so we can figure out your options.

I think it’s ok. If you get a longer sofa, I think part of main sofa would end up being in entry path. So I wouldn’t opt for that. How many people usually sit on the loveseat? You could consider bringing in a chair, instead. Maybe a swivel chair. But I think this L formation is ok.

Hi All - Apoligies will post more pictures later today. The sofa is temporarily there, its the kitchen so its semi openlan. The x marks the spot where we would like the TV on a swivel bracket. Opposite will be a corner sofa. A guess more pictures will make it easier to understand. The white door leads to a small cloakroom bathroom.

ah, ok. better view. it's fine as is. I'd leave that.

great view! I wouldn't bother w/blinds either! I think once you get some art w/some color, maybe a few pillows, a throw in a nice bright yellow or turquoise to throw over the sofa arm,,it will warm up that corner. turquoise and blue accents will play up that lake view. bring in plants. a tall tree in the corner, a hanging pothos ivy, set a few on the shelf in front of the window,,,all of this will bring in some life (and the plants will do wonders in front of the window! a few orchids would work too)

a console is a must for under that tv. a floating one as pictured would look perfect. but please take out that chair rail, lower the tv, and put the wires in the wall if you can swing it.

unfortunately cant get rid of it:/ best I can do is buy a tv media stand that is 35" H so it will cover it and conceal wires.. still have all electronics (including theater system in boxes) . Thx again for the advice!

This is a cable management system that Beth was talking about. I used it in my bedroom and it works great. About $30 on Amazon

You said you have made mistakes and you can't seem to get the design right so at this point, I would search Houzz for a designer local to your area and get them to help you complete the look. This is going to end up saving you time and money int he long run because you will not keep buying things and returning and making mistakes.

    Cheers and good luck!

Also kinda like the look of this TV stand (wish it was a couple of inches taller !)

If you don't want to remove the chair rail, I would at least paint it the same color as the wall, and at that point I think I may paint the walls a different color in general. I'm not a big fan of the blue walls with the blue toned couch, but that's just my opinion. If you like it, leave it. :)

verona, the walls and sofa are gray.

Al, I like those pillows. just enough accent/pattern for you place. If you want those colors, then get a few solid ones to match, and maybe a gold throw (or that blue shade), whichever you prefer. Those media cabs are better. Not my cup of tea, but if you like them and they fit, great!

    wow that view! I would:

-move the shelving that's near the buddhist object to the tv/window corner and get media cabinet like beth h picked. They're both similiarly sized and I feel like it's odd right next to one another.

    - nix the stuff under the window- that's an awesome view!! it looks like you have some wire shelving and a pet crate? right now and neither of those are that nice.

    - push your couch away from the wall. Stick art on the wall behind the couch and some art in the left hand space next to the window. with the couch more under the window and the pet crate near the door (where the little shelves are) the view and the comfy couch are the focus,

basically my thinking is that you have too many small shelving unit things and by consolidating or getting rid of some of them, that would easily make your space look more intentional.

    Beth H,

Yes I liked them i was just worried about silver of carpet and furniture will not mix well with gold? but i definitely like them and like the turquoise tone it has on them too..

Also shopping around I saw these two media cabinets with fireplace that I really like and best of it they are just about 36" High so it will cover the chair rail and cables for sure... my only "but" I was really looking for black color as I feel it would go better with silver & black furniture I have now... Im more towards the 2nd one.. Im bit more flashy lol:) and light the blue led @ bottom of it.. it makes it look more modern for sure.

    Regan 13,

Totally agree... and working on getting rid of small shorter shelves... I just moved like couple of weeks a go and they are for the most part temporary until I find the right stuff to purchase and put things on..( electronics, modems, etc...) as far a my pet crate...yeah different story I need something special for my princess toy-size Yorkie named Frida. Was looking @ small cute dog couches but tbh I dont think she would stay on those as she owns the big sectional :/ lol anyhow thx again for your ideas...

    Best,

    Al

princess needs a glam pet bed ;)

don't worry about the gold and silver. it's fine to mix.

I think that 2nd one would work. It's dark enough to look like black. It will still blend just as well. the blue light at the bottom is definitely more modern.
