Master Bathroom layout help please
Comments (10)"I'm a little confused about your wife. Are you saying that you would prefer #2 because the shower is larger but your wife would prefer #1 because the open space is to the side?" No worries, at times she confuses me too. ; ) I was going to expand on that but didn't. As a single-issue item, I'd prefer the floor layout of #2 because you get a larger shower and you really don't lose floor functionality elsewhere. As a single issue item, my wife would prefer the tub orientation in #1. Normally we'd balance out using the larger shower once or twice a day versus perhaps only using the tub once a week or so. She'd go for "the greater good" and choose the larger shower of #2 over the tub orientation of #1. HOWEVER...your "small" shower is still pretty darn large. Your floor plan shows the small shower still having roughly 5' of open floor length. Plus a bench on the end. So it'll be plenty spacious and airy. "And yet another issue for #2 (did you mean #1?) and #3 is that if two people are using the tub, if only the far person wants to get out they kind of have to climb over the other person." I did consider ingress/egress regarding someone having to climb over another. But because of the size of your tub, with #1/#3, it'd be pretty easy for the blocker to pull their legs in or rotate 90-degrees. Or just be climbed upon. Even with tub orientations #2 and #4, it's not likely that someone is going to step over their headrest to exit the tub. They'll likely shuffle into the foot space of the other bather and exit there where there is no head rest barrier. So with either orientation, I'd think someone will step over or around someone else. "#1 seems to be the only layout that doesn't have any logistical problems but it makes for a smaller shower." I'm really glad you wrote that. Because on the whole, your smaller shower is still plenty large. At least to me. Even with the bench you're looking at roughly 5' of open floor, which I think is fine. I it was my decision, because the small shower is still pretty large, I'd give my wife the tub orientation that she wants with #1. If you plan on watching the TV on the wall while in the tub, I'd mount it on an articulating bracket that can hinge out from the wall. With #1 you'd have to turn your head about 45-degrees to watch. With #2, if the TV can rotate out 90-degrees from the wall, you could watch the screen straight-on....See MoreMaster bathroom layout design ideas
Comments (24)Ha ha, don't like my boulder in the shower? Yes, I agree the bench is more practical Good idea about niches, it keeps everything neat. I am not a big fan of towers, as the space can use some interest in the design. You have enough space for a linen cabinet and it can be smaller in width. Visually it will look better with the vanity top from one wall to the other, even if the cabinet is in front. If you feel a tower is right, consider having on the left side of the vanity as you walk in. If you hang the vanity off the floor (not have the cabinet to the floor) the bathroom will look larger. I like modern also with a touch of classic elements. There are so many options for bathroom design. Comments (16)The floor plan that is shown on grid paper is roughly to scale. 1 square is 1sqft (sunroom is 20 x 9, living room is 22 x 16, etc.) I can put sqft on the drawing when I get to my computer later if needed). As far as budget goes, definitely less than $100k (ideally closer to $50k). Labor is not very expensive where we live and I have discounted material options. That is why I initially thought switching kitchen and bathroom would be most economical since it’s off grade and would mainly just be removing interior walls that aren’t load bearing....See MoreMaster bathroom layout
Comments (102)In reference to the 80cm-90cm walkway space to the bathroom: It is more than sufficient. If you look at the above images, doorways to bathrooms are usually 70cm. Note the wall behind the bed is not a half wall, it is a full wall to the ceiling. I hate to be so repetitious, but I feel the design layout should be determined on 1) a wall of closets vs walk in closet 2) the slope of the ceiling HIG, our suggestions are based on design abstracts. It is so important to stand at the actual building site. Your insights and feedback are very significant for a successful design outcome. Please keep visualizing. Design professionals walk into a space and the concept is done in their head. It's because of years and years (did I say, years?!), of playing with crayons. Your decision will be based on a process of elimination also. Deciding what you don't like, and feel is right for your lifestyle, is just important as loving a detail. Make a Wish List of five items, so that you can refer to non negotiables, like the window at the end of the hall outside your bedroom. Also, don't take a "vote" from everyone on the design. Your decisions should be between you and your husband, as it is your sanctuary. All of those well intentioned comments get very confusing. Everyone has their priorities. If I were with you, I would spread out all of the design layouts and eliminate the ones I definitely didn't like. That would leave 2 or 3 plans to consider. Write the pros and cons of each one. You can then concentrate on the final decision. Forget about all the rest, done, zip, gone. Have a glass of wine, sit outside in the beautiful autumn air, go to bed and make your decision in the morning. It's so exciting you are building this home and you should enjoy every moment. It's not brain surgery, it's decorating. Enjoy it!...See MoreRelated Professionals
