Need help identifying grass/weed
Comments (7)I have experience with poa annua. I am going to assume they behave the same way. The only think that makes me unsure it is pia is the lack of seed heads. If and when you see those, you'll know what I'm talking about and it is definitely poa. Poa will die off in the heat of the summer because of its shallow roots. Since it is in a shady area, I don't know if that will happen in your yard. I have heard to bag your clippings as that helps the seeds from spreading. I cannot speak to the effectiveness of this. The only thing I can tell you works for sure is a good pre-emergent. I used a leaving product faithfully since last fall and the only poa in my Bermuda lawn is where the grass is thin. Definitely a night and day difference from last year. Sorry as this may not give you much help for what to do to get rid of it this year now that you have it....See MoreNeed help identifying grass type on my lawn
Comments (5)The wide blade one is either an old style fescue, like Kentucky 31, or a weed grass. Hard to tell from the one pic. Its a clumping type grass. When I see one in my yard, I just grub it out and either re-seed or stick in a bit of sod to replace it. That grass seems to want to grow along hot sidewalks more than my improved grasses, so, sometimes there I will just dig out a length of it and lay sod in its place along the concrete....See More"Zombie" blades of grass in my Marathon II sod (image attached)
Comments (2)It's brought in by birds - pooping the seeds - so it will be a never-ending problem. Just pull it when you see it....See MoreHow do I get Burmuda grass out of my Marathon grass lawn?
Comments (5)Dear BT33 Thank you very much for your inquiry. I suggest you buy a product called Acclaim extra (fenoxaprop-ethyl). It will take out crabgrass easily, and with repeat applications 2-3 weeks apart will knockout the bermudagrass. You will need to go to a turf specialty/supply store (like Lesco) to get this product, I believe. Seeds and stems do travel via vehicles and water. There is little to do to prevent it. It has been happening in nature since the beginning. Again, thanks for the question and let me know if you have more.
