PLEASE HELP!! Kitchen Cabinets Dilemma
Comments (39)Here is a blog post by someone who painted her cabinets. She is still very pleased with the results 3 years later. Some of her cabinets show wear, which being a DIY person she quickly and easily repaints the worn areas (which do not show on pics taken from a distance.) This is the sort of wear I have seen. Whether this is a problem or not depends on the temperament / DIY skill of the owner. Some see this kind of wear and shrug it off, get the can of paint out now and then and do touch ups. Others are disappointed because it bothers them a lot and don't like or don't feel able to refresh the paint job. https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/painted-kitchen-cabinets-three-years-later/ A little wear: Here is another with similar outcome. Neither of these people regret painting their cabinet though both also show what the wear can look like. Both feel that their cabinets have held up well. That depends on ones expectations. https://www.dukemanorfarm.com/2016/02/pros-and-cons-of-painting-kitchen-cabinets-white.html...See MoreAsymmetrical headboard wall design dilemma

Comments (14)Thanks for all the input! We're using an experienced contractor, so I'm not worried about personally screwing up the installation. I'm still nervous about the pebbles and I'm prepared to pick some apart by hand myself, if necessary. The tile is coming from a tile store and everything is rated appropriately (I double checked!). Beth H: I really appreciate the advice and all the pics. Very helpful! I just ordered 4000K lightbulbs. I have no idea what's up there now. I will definitely make sure the sealer is applied as advised. If I do the pebbles, I want them to look good! Patti: please share pics of your baths. I would love to see them! North: thanks for the tip on the enhancer. I saw some at the tile shop done half-and-half and I completely agree with you! Grover: thanks for affirming my hesitance to tile around the freestanding tub. I don't want tile overload....See MoreAnother TV Alcove Dilemma - is removal too asymmetric?
Comments (22)I think that removing the right wall of the alcove will be very problematic. You'll be left with crown molding (which is very nice, by the way) jutting out into "nowhere." It will also create problems with trying to patch the floor where the wall was removed. Personally, I don't like the look of the supporting left wall jutting out into the room by itself. I would leave both walls of the alcove intact. I like the idea of putting a fireplace in the space where the alcove currently is, provided that you can vent it to the outside. Venting fireplaces to the inside of the house is not a safe way to do it. If a fireplace won't work, I would do built-in storage cabinets in the lower part of the alcove. I would "fill in" the space where the TV should be by having new framing and drywall installed. The idea is to "fill in" the alcove and have the surface of the cabinetry and new drywall for the TV flush with the surface of the existing left and right alcove walls....See MoreRelated Professionals
