Cleaning Tips Design Dilemma Kitchens

Kids made snowman yesterday and used blueberries for eyes and mouth. Cute, except I woke up to fingerprints on some of my newish white painted kitchen cabinets. Warm
Water and dish soap have lightened but not fully removed the stains. Any suggestions?

I use a product called Krud Kutter. It gets almost anything out, and it's non toxic.

several things come to mind but I would carefully test a small bit on the inside of a seldom-used cabinet to make sure you don't ruin the finish. Non-abrasive toothpaste, Magic Eraser very lightly, baking soda paste.

1. You can mix in a spray bottle ½ cup all purpose cleaner, (NO ammonia) white
  vinegar or wood cleaner with ½ cup water.
2. Starting with one cabinet at a time, spray the cabinets with the mixture. (start
  with small test first)
3. Softly Rinse the sponge, wring it out - and wipe the cabinet to remove the
  cleanser.
4. When finish, dry the cabinet with a soft rag.

If they were so unpractical, how come they are so popular? Lots of popular things aren't 'specially practical! High heels and sports cars, for example. Going to see your team play at the stadium isn't as easy or cheap as watching them on TV in your comfortable living room ... ditto for going to a concert. Going out to eat is more expensive than cooking at home, and it's a fleeting pleasure for the money --not 'specially practical. The list could go on. Practical and popular don't necessarily gang together. Are white kitchens one of those things? Depends. Are you the type of housekeeper who likes white because it'll allow you to see the dirt ... or would you welcome stain because it would hide the dirt? Something I don't think has been mentioned yet: White is more expensive than stained cabinets. And painted cabinets have a shorter lifespan than stained cabinets. So, yeah, from a value point of view, maybe they aren't the most practical option. My suggestion: Go to Pinterest and make a new folder. Go through and click every kitchen that really "speaks to you" ... don't stop to consider what you like, just click ... then go back and count how many are white vs. how many are stained.

Pledge, oil soap, orange oil, old english, wax, and other con job stuff like that harms your cabinet finishes. Dry dusting should be 90% of your cabinet cate. A damp, not wet, microfiber, with a tiny amount of Dawn, is 10%. Then ”rinse” with a water only damped microfiber. And that is it. Cabinets are furniture.

No abrasives like magic sponges. No bleach. All of that will damage your cabinets.

Try Peroxide. Microfiber. Just the same 3% kind you’d use to clean up a knee scrape.

Plain soap and water is all you should ever need for liquid spills on cabinets. If soap and water doesn’t do it, then you have a coatings issue. Real cabinet manufacturers do not use paint. Manufactured cabinets coatings must pass KCMA certifications tests that involve resistance to stains. All bets are off for anything else staining in the future if these are back yard custom or home house painted.

Thanks everyone. Sophie, these are new (installed in May) cabinets from Signature Custom Cabinet co based in PA.

Hydrogen peroxide. Saturate a cold water wrung out rag. If that doesn't do it, moisten baking soda with the same thing, AND GENTLY GENTLY try again. Frankly, I do use Magic Eraser on on painted cabinets, and very gently and only when necessary. I question the coating on your cabinets.

Thanks again everyone for the tips. Got the peroxide. Seems to have little effect. I'm going to call the showroom where I bought my cabs tomorrow. A rep from Signature is already scheduled to come out next week to deal with another finish/paint issue on my hood. I'm just hoping this is not a sign of what to expect going forward as the cabinets were not cheap. We'll see...
