Recommendation for an OTC that works.

A homemade that worked for you.

Works for what? Acne, dryness, smoothing? Choose accordingly. Any OTC mask will make face feel renewed, not sure that brand makes that much diff. I love most masks found at Ulta. For more serious repair I go to spa. I doubt granddaughter needs “repair”, probably just a feel good sensation, in which case any OTC will work. I used st Ives clay masks but I don’t know if those are available any more. There are lots of choices, all good.

ETA: mask selection is easy. The right mascara? A totally different and complicated beast, ha

Maybe she meant mask that you wear to prevent getting infections from someone. With flu season so bad I've worn some. 99cent store, Costco & drug stores have them, I like the ones that have little strap that you slip over each ear. the top of it has thin metal that you bend to fit tight over your nose & cheeks. I wore to DMV as long wait with lots of people. Along with the mask I also have hand sanitizer in purse & car & wipe down grocery cart handle. Use elbow to enter lot of doors or pull sleeve over hand to open others. I've had 1 cold in 5 years. It works but you have to always do diligence! Don't use "masks you put on & wash off, too many allergies to even try them.

Longs Drug stores still carry the packets by Andrea. I get packets of a line called "Face Tonic" at Walmart.

Are you a 'High Maintenance' woman?

I quit coloring my hair over a year ago but 'touch up' a too obivious gray streak that developed when I was 18. I have a nice hair color, I don't know why I started coloring it in the first place (Someone probably dared me to do it) (Spell pedicure correctly 3 times: pedicure, Pedicure, PEDICURE!) I enjoy the maintenance when I have the time, maybe I'll have more time to pamper myself when all the boys are away at college next fall. I am upping my sunscreen protection and slowing replacing my makeup with products that include it. I can't think of anything I do every month on schedule anymore. When I colored my hair, I would call it "Mom,s Spa Night' While my hair was morphing, I would give myself a facial mask, use the epilady places where I needed to, and soak my nails for a manicure (no polish) Sometime I think just staying clean and trying not to sweat is a major beauty accomplishment for me. When I went through my "big hair' stage back in the 80's, keeping up a perm with bangs was tough. If anything, I'll apply just mascara and moisturiser for a day around the house. Cupajoe, I wonder if I had that kind of money in highschool, if I wouldn't have done the same thing. I was a narcissus little thing back then...had to keep the package looking good...

But I'm not going to freak out about me catching a virus that isn't any worse than the flu. If you are talking about the coronavirus, we still do not have enough information to make the conclusion you made above. There is too much information missing, some of it deliberately so because of political reasons by the Chinese government. It is good not to freak out, that doesn't help anything. But it is also good to make some preparations that might make life easier if you do end up ill with the virus, easily prepared food, water, otc meds.
