glass tile on new shower floor looks dark/blotchy when wet
Comments (18)Thank you very much mongoct. This is very helpful. I took these pictures before you post, borrowing the glass guy's leveler. We didnt know what to look for as far as depth is concerned. It does not look like enough, does it? I believe the shower is 5 ft. long. When he comes back with his leveler, we'll measure the drop. On a side note, the installer had set the valves too low for hot water. He came over to adjust them. In another shower (he did two), the water was pooling at one end. The installer said that wasnt right and that he would fix it. On the above shower, I pointed the sh. head towards the wall, and the water drained some, but not all of it...maybe an 1/8" sat there. I had to push it into the drain. Now I am worried this guy is incompetent. How hard are these things to fix? He was recommended by the architect and does multimillion dollar homes!...See MoreWould I regret a marble niche or backsplash in my tiled shower/bath?
Comments (3)We used polished White Thassos marble in our niches (top, sides, bottom in three bathrooms, plus shelves in two baths). We also used it as border tile on our MB tub surround (but it doesn't really get wet during showers as it sits outside the shower curtain liner, and curtain itself). I sealed it all when it was installed, and that's pretty much it. I use a "sealed natural stone-safe" spray cleaner (7th Generation Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner). I spray it on, let sit a few minutes, and buff off with a microfiber cloth. No rinsing necessary (I do try to wipe it all off, as I'm not fond of the lingering scent left behind, mostly in the corners). As far as I can tell, the WT still looks perfectly fine....See MoreWhat are the problems with using marble tile on my shower walls?
Comments (3)Been used for centuries. Use non-acidic cleaners like MB Stone Care. Take the easy precautions (true for any shower surface) and ensure proper ventilation (and use it), quick squeegee and wipe with micro-fiber towel after use. Of course the most important factor for longevity is not the tile or stone on the surface, but how the shower was built (methods and materials). And yes, pay attention to the quality of the marble. It does make a difference. Like anything else, you will pay more for quality....See MoreCan I get veining granite / marble looking tiles for my shower???
Comments (5)The trouble with tile is that the pattern must end at the edge of every tile, so with a tile with lots of movement, you get abrupt endings at the edge, then abrupt beginnings of a new pattern with the new tile. See, it looks noting like a sheet of your stone, where your eye is drawn to see the flow from one design and color to a new one. Some stone yards so sell large, thinner, shower-sized pieces of stone. It is not a DIY project and it costs a lot. Another option is something called Neolith. It is an impervious solid surface that has strong veining. But not in the colors you posted. Neolith Colors...See MorePara
