Miguel: did you ever see Andante again?
Comments (8)Memphisbelle, quite a few clematis suffer in the heat and humidity of my garden here in NC during the pits of the summer. Integrifolias are typically not ones that seem to be fazed by the heat and humidity however except for the issue of mildew. Roguchi gets mildew horribly in my garden if it is not sprayed with a mildewicide as does Embers. The other integrifolias, except for those mentioned previously, have never had an issue with mildew in my garden and do well in my summer conditions. Not sure why you would have a problem with Andante and not with Rooguchi. Just shows everyone's garden conditions differ greatly and the experiences we have with the same clematis varies as well....See MoreWill my H. Carnosa ever bloom again?
Comments (5)Nan... Sorry to hear your MIL took it upon herself to prune your Hoya. I'm sure she meant well, and I hope you were able to keep your cool. I'm not sure I would have!! But, don't worry, your Hoya will bloom again. I suppose she cut back where all the old peduncles were, which means it will have to grow new ones before it will bloom again. Did she at least keep the cuttings so you could start a new plant? Sometimes, the old peduncles will rebloom on a newly rooted cutting. One course of action you can take (other than asking MIL not to take the machete to your plants!) is to give your Hoya a bloom boost fertilzer (middle number high) and that will encourage flowers instead of new growth. Good luck and hope you don't have to wait too long for new blooms. Denise in Omaha...See MoreDai Jo Kuhan: will you ever bloom again?
Comments (1)Do some reading on peonies. They generally bloom once a year. Some tree peonies will bloom twice with the correct conditions. You will not see any more blooms this year. This is why I have continued to suggest that buyers look at the foliage and seedpods if any. The blooms are only one short part of a four season plant....See MoreIf roses are cut under graft will it ever bloom flowers again
Comments (8)Where do you think the graft is/was Keithog? There are two possible sites - right down by/just under the ground, which is where it would be for a grafted shrub or climber, in which case everything is fine, as it'll resprout from the remaining canes. OR, if it was a standard or 'tree' rose then the graft would be several feet up, so the roots and a single straight trunk would be one variety and the bushy flowering part at the top would be another. In that case, rip it out like Kate says. Looking at the picture, I personally don't think it was a standard. Could you take a better picture of the base of the rose, and hopefully someone with better eyes than mine can determine whether that small cane at the bottom was a sucker or whether there's a graft below it or not....See Morevtandrea
