No, the only teal is in the rug and in the pillows on the couch.

If you're keeping the blue and lavender walls, then those colors and their affinity accent colors should be in your fabrics and accessories. The baker's rack seems odd and strangely placed in the corner. Any space for it in the kitchen where it could become a real workhorse?

No real space in the kitchen for the baker's rack at all--we could turn it along the stairs but it would make the dining room a little tight as far as pulling the chairs out from the table (I am stuck with my husband's grandfather's dining room set and I am not allowed to replace it...sigh). I will add some other pics...I recently painted the baker's rack. It was a cheap floor sample. I could always get rid of it entirely. Kitchen is L-shaped, all cabinets, and we took out the wall between the dining room and kitchen and added the island. There was very little storage space in the kitchen originally.

There's a little cheapo wine rack in the far corner. We haven't hung any art yet at all... have a ketuba and a wedding photo that I think we will put on this wall.

I'm certainly open to suggestions for rearranging any and all furniture. There's a sideboard in the bay window behind the dining room curtains, too.

The runner is mainly so that when the dog runs down the stairs, he doesn't slide into the bookcase when he hits the hardwood floor!

But I'd like something that pulls things together. I'm working on furnishings for the rest of the living room--maybe a couple chairs.

This is our ketubah; it's what informed the color choices in those rooms.

Green plays well with both purple and royal blue/cobalt. You might want to consider eliminating turquoise and moving toward green for an accent colour instead:

Maybe skip the runner and go for two area rugs instead.

I'm not sure I can get rid of the teal--I'm lucky I got my husband to pick ANY rug at all. He wanted to be in on the decision, he didn't want to spend more than $500, and he really wanted like a beige shag rug. I was going for transitional, something with a pattern. I love the rug in that second picture.

I also wanted to paint the place gray, and he wanted color but refused to go to the paint store, so I hired a color consultant and she helped us choose colors to match the ketubah and the quartz counters we put in the kitchen.

I figure we could always get a different rug and put this one upstairs or in the basement....

Lovely wall colors. Could we possibly see a pic of the bottom of the stairs area? Also, the view from that area so we may see the view from the runner area.

Just saw the reason for the runner. In that case I would go neutral, and bring the rooms together with the common accent colour. I would use green as the accent like I showed above but then, I'm a green kind of girl. Yellow could also work. Even silver. You've already got silver in your curtains and baker's rack; you can bring that metallic into the LR and that would function nicely as a tie-in. Sofa colour for the runner.

The ketubah will be beautiful in the dining room. I would frame it large with a mat that picks up on one of the colors around the document. Have you tried the wine rack in the corner by the stairs instead of the baker's rack? Maybe the baker's rack should go away. Unfortunately, I think the island was a mistake; it has eaten the area where the dining table and chairs should have centered under the light. Is it nailed down or can we find a better place for it?

The island is nailed down. I think it's too big, unfortunately. But nearly every unit in our complex has some kind of island there, so we felt like it was a good way to add storage and kind of bring the place in line with the others.

We looked into moving the dining room light, but with the stupid popcorn ceiling, we just left it for now. I feel like if I could eventually convince my husband to get rid of that dining room set and get a smaller one, that would help.

phuninthesun, are you suggesting those for the living room or the dining room? I think I had actually saved the middle one previously as possibly good for the dining room. I have to remeasure the dining room table--if we put a rug in the dining room, it would have to be under the table and chairs, yes? I think I measured previously and the size is a little weird...

I don't see room for a runner there...please don't think I'm heartless but if this is a fairly new home for Dog, he will eventually learn that he needs to slow down on the stairs in order to prevent catastrophe.

As an alternative to the runner you could also get an inexpensive non-skid rug pad to pop at the end of the stairs whenever he's upstairs so when he comes flying down he has a landing pad. It would be much cheaper than a proper rug and fit the space better too. People do all sorts of "odd" things for the comfort and health of their pets so don't even think twice about the looks factor!

That's actually what we have there now! Haha. We got a too-big rug pad for the kitchen rug and my husband put the extra piece down at the bottom of the stairs.

Another question for y'all--I was debating painting my end tables white. Or else getting rid and getting something else. I'm trying to make this room transitional rather than traditional. Any suggestions?

Do the end tables arrive within 1" (above or below) your sofa arms? Looks quite bulky and may overpower the simple lines of the sofa.

Daina, Just saw this thread. As you mentioned, the Katuba was the reason for the mix of colors we chose, so it is important to get that up on a wall, even if you move it later to a better spot. I too don't see a good spot for a runner based on what you are showing in the photos, but the runner you were looking at does bring some of the purple into the living room. You have a photo in your ideabook (in which I am a collaborator) of a pillow which would tie things together better than the very geometric pillows in the first photo. It seems to me that the pillows are causing more problems than anything else.

As far as the various end tables, be careful of too many disparate items, such that nothing seems to blend together. Most of the photos you have in your ideabook have more rounded forms, but I recommend you start with the coffee table, and then see what works from there. It's fine to have one fun accent end table, but you don't want so many ideas going on that you can't figure out what to look at first. The tables can be quieter if the lamps are interesting.

I know your husband's inherited dining table doesn't take you to the more contemporary or transitional place you would like to have, but you had a large photo from your wedding to go there in the dining room, as I recall, which would add color and personality there. Or you can go with more modern art with a traditional dining table to loosen up the space. Let me know if you would like to meet again for a design consultation to tweak placement of what you already have, and to discuss these items you are looking at for future purchases. We can get that art hung in the same appointment, if it's not up by then.
