Soffit stress - need advice!
Comments (10)Hi everyone, Thanks for all of the advice and pictures! The pipe is quite large, so even without the warranty concerns, I don't think it would be feasible to place it in the top back of the cabinets (but believe me, we did think about that!) It is about 8" from the ceiling and 18" from the back wall. It's approximately 98" long - about 40" from the wall (or knee wall) or each side. Here's a picture of the design for the wall it will affect - the idea would be to keep the two end cabinets high (19" cabinet on the right, and 12" angled cabinet on the left) and lower the middle ones below the soffit. Although it is not shown in this picture, there is not a wall to the right of the cabinetry - there is a five foot wide archway into the next room. It's essentially a galley kitchen, so on the wall directly across from this, all of the cabinets could remain the full 39" hight. Of course, with the soffit, this would put them on a different level from the ones on this wall, but I hate to add back a useless soffit and sacrifice cabinet space for the sake of absolute symmetry! On the other hand, my husband's pretty concerned it'll look ridiculous with the varying heights......See MoreNeed advice re: what paint to use

Comments (2)Vinyl or aluminum are the most maintenance free, IMHO. Vinyl is a bit more easy to install while aluminum is a little more stable in the wind. Both are made with holes for simply installing and forgetting. A piece can be fairly easily replaced if damaged. Wood/composite needs to be painted and have holes cut and screens/covers installed. Damage repair requires more work---replacing a whole section....See MoreNeed advice on using WoodEpox and GF Java Gel
