Comments (9)Like dcarch, any scraps that the chickens don't want go into my garden, but the chickens really like the fat. Since they live in an unheated coop in Michigan, I think the fat is extra energy to help keep them warm, even though they are Rhode Island Reds and are extremely cold tolerant. Heck, they go outside and scratch in the snow and sun themselves sitting on top of snowbanks, so I like to help them out with extra nutrition if I can. Comments (24)I am like rhizo never boiled a ham ever. I buy smoked hams that are actually fully cooked from the smoking. I put it in the oven to heat up. If I get a little picnic shoulder ham I cook them in the oven till tender. Usually put some kind of fruit juice in with it, pineapple, orange, Apple etc. And I sometimes glaze the hams. If I get a raw pork ham roast, not smoked just raw from the pig, I do those in my big roaster pan in the oven or my electric roaster oven and cook till internal temp is done. Just like a regular roast. Sometimes I cut slots and stuff with onion and garlic. Comments (3)I'd say pretty much anywhere you'd use plain water for some extra flavor. I'm usually only cooking for myself, but just CANNOT bring myself to toss chicken bones/carcasses without making some stock. Easy to do and pretty much "free" from what you'd just be throwing away anyway. Comments (10)I liked them and watched all of their shows that were on at the time, but even more, I liked Floyd on Food, with Keith Floyd. Here's one episode to give you an idea of his show, but I mainly remember him traveling around England recreating local dishes that took tremendous amounts of time to make, tasted horrible, and then he threw them out. I did not watch his shows to learn recipes but for pure entertainment....See Moredbarron
