Remodeling Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Stone Fireplace Remodel Ideas

We will soon be renovating this 1980's home and I'd love some ideas to renovate the stone fireplaces. I would like to completely take down the stone and simplify them, but the same stone is used for the two chimneys and also some of the landscaping out front. Is there a way to maintain some of the brick so it doesn't feel disconnected from the rest of the house? Does the stone need to match the chimney?

I love white and plan to paint with that and brighten the room!

I love the shiplap style--can that be included above the fireplace or would it not fit the home's style?

Also, the ugly built-in on the left has to go as well with maybe an additional window added there?

The second fireplace is in the den/ living room area. Should I use the same materials in this space as well to tie-in the aesthetics?

The first room is a bit overpowered by all that rock. One option is to remove the upper half and leave the lower part. Perhaps the stone from the first FP could be used for the den, doing the same as the first room, stone on the lower half only. Hope that made sense. :)

Just say no to shiplap. It's awful no matter what Joanna Gaines says.

I just want to take it all down and start new! But maybe leave a little around the inside like in the photo below? Why does everyone hate shiplap? ;) Maybe it doesn't match the aesthetic of this home though!

Whatever you use around the sides and top of the fireplace, you can use on the riser. I took out the raised hearth for my fireplace and used a tile surround. I also tiled the area in front of the fireplace with the same tile as the surround. I believe that you need at least 16" of non-combustible material in front of the firebox. I am currently working on a kitchen remodel and next to my kitchen is the living room with a fireplace all the way to ceiling. We are thinking of ideas to redo the fireplace. One idea is to cover the fireplace with drywall and make two big rectangular holes (one for electric fireplace, one for hanging the TV, something like this). However, we are worried that: (1) electric fireplace may look cheap. (2) losing the fireplace appeal. Another idea is to hang the TV on the other Wall as labelled in the photo and keep the fireplace as is. Maybe get an insert fireplace to put in there (but might be difficult due to rough edges of the stone fireplace). Any suggestions?

Please stcked stone is already dated and IMO never really belonged indoors at all If you really want help we need info . What is your style maybe some pics of your interiors where you are , IMO the srched window will drive the rest of the design of the FP.
