Driving me crazy! Need help identifying age/maker?
Comments (4)I have never seen anything quite like it, but I found something interesting on it and perhaps it is pertinent. In addition to the 'pi' and the "A" looking like a potter incised it with a stylus, is a number 15 stamped in and also what looks like 4337 under the glaze likely mould or pattern numbers. But, in addition to that is a hand painted black what looks like a "C" with a dash over it. That is the Japanese hirogana character for the vowel "U" pronounced "ewwww". This may have been painted on by the finisher as a signature mark and been an initial. If that is the case, it may have been made in Japan. That doesn't mean it's not old or not valuable if it is. That piece would have involved more work than a typical piece of pottery and it's quite pretty. It may have been made in several pieces, even. The rest of the styling is reminiscent of some early thirties/forties American art pottery. I hope you get a more definitive identification on it. Comments (25)All I can say is wow, thanks for all the ideas and help. So, the new window went in and it is taller, so my GC made sure to carefully remove and store the extra tiles for me. We'll see this weekend how many I have extra now. I thought I'd maybe send one to Chippy to see if they have a match in NJ. Also, I can use one for our re-glazer, if I need to still go that route. I have the pedestal sink in hand at the house, so for now we are good. I'll let you know how the tiles end up. Please keep sending the suggestions!!...See MoreNeed your help...this wall is driving me CRAZY!
Comments (23)I would put a cherry wood overmantel, and then a narrow length of trim down the left side of the fireplace, and cap the entire width with the same crown moulding at the same height that the cabinet is now, so that it looks like one total piece with the fireplace as a part of the whole built in. I would not paint anything, and I would leave the arch as it is over the fireplace - it adds some interest and breaks up all the rectangles in the area. I would take the clock down and instead mount a decorative dark iron piece there that compliments the hardware on the cabinet. I would not rely on drapery to try and balance the area - it won't have the same visual weight even if you could come close to the color. For sure I would pull the couch on the left into the seating area, and get an area rug to define that part of the space so that the eye is centered on the cabinet/fireplace part of the wall. If one of the seating pieces is wider, I would have that one be the one facing the fireplace. I am sure you have yet to add end tables and lamps, since you only have task lighting there at the moment, but I would wait to decide on the end tables until you have the seating in place. The overall feel of the space is fresh and clean, and the colors work well. What are you planning for an accent color?...See MoreCrazy cakes here needs help with design mistake in new shower
Comments (25)You probably can't cap it off. That will wreck havoc on the diverter valve . Of course , you'll have to read the instructions for your specific model. I can't think of any off hand that will support only one outlet though....See Morejinnyladerer
