How do you determine the age of a cutting?

If you take a cutting from a plant, whether it's a tree, perennial, or anything, do they always take on the age or the mother plant?

For example, if you took cuttings from both an avocado tree and tree collards and reestablished them as separate trees, can you expect the cuttings to die at the same time as the mother plant that you took cutting from, however long that maybe? So if original avocado tree and basil plant that cuttings were taken from are expected to die in 2030(avocado) and 2020(basil) then any cuttings you take from those plants, will last until those same years too.
