As always, a picture would help…worth a thousand words…is the molding over the cabinets actually part of the cabinet design? How does it meat the room molding?

The question here is "how open". The crown/cabinet color in the kitchen is best repeated on all trim IN the kitchen

If you have any doorway, header etc between the kitchen and old dining room? A shift in trim white is possible. But much depends on the wall colors in the rooms beyond. Post more pictures.

I will add here, that this is why a decision between warm and cool palettes becomes very important in open floor plans......

Thank you Jan. There is no header between kitchen and old DR as you can see from the pics here. I haven't chosen a paint color for the rest of the house yet. I only have to match blue sofas and yellow chairs. I was looking at BM desert tan or something similar.

Also, the painter is here for the next two weeks so I can repaint the trim everywhere any color I want.

Create a cased opening between the two spaces to differentiate them and to give the expensive kitchen crown a place to stop. Rethink your cold gray. It not working with the yellow ivory cabinets.

Thank you Sophie. I can definitely rethink the sofas. Have them slipcovered or whatever, they've always been difficult to decorate around and now I am realizing why. Ugh. The yellow chairs are still okay though right? They have an ivory background.

Take a scrap of your kitchen molding, or a drawer face to the paint store. Repeat that ivory on ALL your walls, kitchen included eggshell or flat finish. Ask them to make you a trim color in satin finish, at one HALF the strength of that wall color, and use it on trim everywhere else. This is what I meant with that warm /cool decision. Your yellow chairs will be fine, gray and yellow CAN work together, depending intensities, keep them similar. Let the other accents come from rugs and art. You will end with a less choppy feel in your home. When in doubt? Get a DESIGNER to yank it all together for you. Warmth and intensities matter : ) no matter how one combines colors

You don't even have to wimp out in the powder room! That's separate space , closed off ! I wouldn't be afraid of a deep gray....,make it a little glam : ) Even charcoal can work.! This is dark navy.... but same idea, Depends what else is IN the bath
