Comments (35)I've had a KA for a little over three years and I've been happy with it so far. I had nothing any more upscale than a basic Whirlpool fridge prior to this - Whirlpool brands have served me well - so this was more than adequate for me. Some good friends needed several repairs on their relatively new SZ fridge and went out of their way to recommend I not get one. Obviously lots of people are delighted with SZ but since people I actually know were not, that did influence my decision. I did want a built in with cabinet panels and KA was outrageously expensive enough - no way I was going to pay thousands more than that. For that I would expect flawless performance for at least 15 years and I just don't think they make appliances that way any more. What might have been great quality 20-30 years ago I really don't think is the same these days - SZ or otherwise....See MoreGE and Thermador re-designing their built in refrigerators???
Comments (3)I was just looking at the Thermador T36BB810SS (bottom freezer 36") and was told by my sales guy that it was discontinued a few days ago and could no longer be ordered. Per the sales guy, the 900 series will not be available until October. The Thermador web site still shows the 800 series. The Big Online Appliance Retailer replaced the 800 series with the 900 series last night. So, yes, I'm thinking you could get an 800 model close-out. It looks like the difference between the 800 and 900 series are the addition of "ThermaFresh," changed lighting, new control panel style, soft close, and "delicate produce" bins in the door....See MoreHas anyone replaced an old built in refrigerator with a new built in?
Comments (7)I replaced a built-in SubZero last year when the 1988 original-to-the-house-model started leaking and, I was told, couldn't be repaired. Mine is one of the smallest widths at 36 inches. The old one was a side-by-side which I didn't like because the freezer side was so narrow, so I opted for a french door model with the freezer on the bottom. What a mistake on my part. Despite being the same cubic feet, the bottom freezer holds about 15% - 20% less than the side-by-side. Also, the produce drawers go the width of the refrigerator so you have to open both doors to open the drawer which is a horribly energy inefficient design. Okay, rant over and moving on to your question. They had no problem making the exchange, getting around the island and through the kitchen door. You can look up the measurements of your current and proposed units and measure to see if they will fit. Remember that the doors can be removed, if necessary. I was most concerned that the dolly would mar my wood floors, but they used some sort of fiberboard pads to protect the floor and I had no damage....See Morejellytoast
