I am going to ask you to think about how you use this space, and if you really want deep tufting on the seat, and arms of your sofa in your family room. With a 4 year old, you will be constantly fishing things out of the tufting - and having challenges cleaning up the velvet if anything damp or gooey gets on it.

Can you post pictures of the space - as it is currently? It's always helpful to get a feel for the room if we can see it.

Food is not allowed into this room. :-) This is not the living room. This room is at the same level as the bedrooms. Purely just to relax, catch up, read, catch a show etc. Also no toys are allowed at that level except his stuffed toys & books. So I am not terribly worried about mess & such. But it is a valid point. Should give that some thought.

I ideally would prefer a couple of oversized lounge chaise & a comfy rocking chair that can go with it. But I could not finding anything I like within my budget.

I'm going to take a big breath before saying this, but that sofa to me does not convey "cozy, warm & yet stylish, crisp & not fussy", especially warm, crisp, and not fussy. I find it conveys the exact opposite. I think the recently popular slope arm style of sofa (I've seen them at Restoration Home, Jayson Home, Ikea) would work well in this room.

I agree with you about a wood vs. glass coffee table, both for warmth and practicality. Or an upholstered ottoman, and not necessarily matching the sofa.
