Exterior wood siding help, please!
Comments (6)I'm guessing the concern or regulation isn't about conservation - it's the danger that your house will catch on fire when a spark from a wildfire lands on the siding. I agree with Klem that there's no sense in discarding redwood. If there's a way to keep redwood on the exterior, then doing so really depends on how risk-averse you are, knowing whatever fuels are in your area (i.e., the age and the structure of the forest within a few miles and in the immediate vicinity). If allowed by local code, I personally would be tempted to keep the redwood siding and simultaneously take other fire-wise measures such as removing trees within 100' or so of the house and installing a sprinkler system that can function in a power outage. (If these suggestions don't make sense, google "firewise".) If the regulations say you absolutely cannot keep the siding without gypsum board underneath, sounds like you need to cover or lose the redwood. Again, there actually is a good reason for that in fire-prone areas....See MoreHelp with exterior color scheme of new build and any other advice
Comments (24)Thanks for the feedback all, MB Custom especially. I’m going to try to sketch up those changes over the next couple days and get them to the builder. The only suggestion that I’m back and forth on is the doorway in the living room to the deck. I have it positioned there so that you go out under the covered portion of the deck. I know it will limit furniture position. To be honest, we aren’t really living room people. We spend our time between, kitchen, bedrooms and deck. Same with dining room. That table is more for collecting mail. It will be a small 4 person table. Regarding not making changes. I’m know I can still make changes but at the end of the day, I have 100’s of hours into this and looking at other layouts and this is the best I could do to meet our wants. My main goal with this design was to keep as much on the back of the house as I could. I’m sure I should have hired an architect but the builder seemed confident that the engineer could draw it up. I am going to try to incorporate suggestions and I’ll see what you guys think. Cheers....See Morehelp with exterior - brick, siding, windows
Comments (3)The Pearl Grey matches well with the Morning Dove brick and the grout color used with the brick. I'm not seeing a shingle color yet. That's a contributor. I'm not a fan of white trim(SW Artic White is used) with black windows. I'd like to see darker gutter and trim shades of Pearl Gray(SW 052) as options. Hardie colors are Gray Slate, Aged Pewter and Iron Gray....See MoreHelp Choosing New Exterior Siding Color for Unique Contemporary House
Comments (13)Good idea for color blocking. The current cedar siding is too damaged to use. With all the cylinder shapes on the house, we are limited on what we can use. Hardiplank can't be used around the rounded shapes. I am not a stucco fan. We have talked to numerous siding people and are limited to cedar again, a commercial metal house look, or vinyl to cover the rounded curves. The humidity is really hard on the exterior wood and we are hesitant to use it again....See Moremocxr
