Honest opinions needed-would you get new cab. for above my sink?
Comments (13)Thanks, all! I just love my kitchen, even still. The only thing I'd change about it (besides what I wrote about today!) would be adding granite instead of laminate. But the entire kitchen was done on a budget ($10,000, Kraftmaid cabs), and I paid for it all myself. I had a really good job at the time and didn't want to go into debt, and this was the absolute best I could do. I actually did think of putting up a triangular wall shelf; in fact, we tried to install one last year. But on the right-hand side of that corner, there's a pipe coming down from the bathroom, which is directly above the kitchen. So where the shelf hit on the right side, we couldn't drill into it, obviously. So that idea was lost. Now I have two Ansel Adams prints framed in black with white mats in the space. Looks great, but like I said, I need more space. We have two small kids since the remodel, meaning more food, more everything! I just hate to remove that light fixture, but it might be necessary. I got it from Rejuvenation, and just love it. Wouldn't glass shelves be dangerous? As in, if I put my china there, wouldn't it have a good chance of sliding off? Is that a stupid question? LOL! My son is two and runs through my house like an elephant, causing lots of vibrations. (We have all hardwood floors). So, I need to make an appointment at Home Depot to see what options are even available in my cabinet style. I did call, and they told me a hinged corner cabinet would be $291. Thank you for suggesting maybe a shorter cabinet...that way, I could do the crown molding and it wouldn't interfere with the light. My cabinets are tall (42" I think), and if I got the smaller option (30", right?) that would solve it! I had not thought of that and it's a great idea! All your ideas are great! Thank you for them. I have some thinking, planning, and saving of money to do. :) Please don't look too closely at my tile work. I did it all by myself, and probably should have used white grout. It's so uneven in many spots and my biggest pet peeve about the kitchen. I've thought about scraping it out and starting over, but heard it's very hard to do! BTW, my tile is just regular Daltile, Rittenhouse Square, I believe. It was the cheapest option at the time for the look I wanted. Beth...See MoreHow high should my framed picture be above the sofa?
Comments (25)Everyone thank you so much for your input. Chijim, I love all the beautiful pictures of the dogs so much! I love dogs. I have four little dogs ranging in size from 4 lbs to 8 lbs. Three are Maltese and one is a black and white Shih Tzu. I like how you have the pictures stacked. I guess there is various ways to make a room look grounded and nice. I love the picture so much and I just want it to look right so I can enjoy my family room before tackling my next project which is the TV stand and TV. The picture means so much to me since I was waiting until I put the Brazilian Cherry floors down before putting a picture on the wall since I was not sure how I was going to arrange the furniture. I was also waiting until a picture called out to me and not just put any picture up. I am glad I waited so now the sofa and end tables are where I want them to be and I was able to see the Bronze frame would look nice with the floors. A cherry frame would not work with the red in the picture to my eyes. I was up late with a client that has a 3 hour difference and then I could not sleep. My other client/friend arrived to hang the picture at 10 AM today and first he hung it crooked and too high even with his leveler. Then he rehung it too low and I measured and he hung it 1/2" higher than I thought it should be so I made him redo it. Now it is where I thought it should be but I thought the picture was 40" in height and it is 39.5" in height. It is actually 49.5" wide X 39.5" high and not the 50" X 40" I thought it was. I guess they have to take 1/4" off on all the sides to mat it and frame the print. My client/friend measured on top of the rounded frame part instead of on the side which is why he gave me the wrong measurements. I will for now on measure with my white easy to fold-up plastic stool. When he left, I realized the sofa is not completed filled out on top so when it is squished down, it was the 31.75" high but when it is fluffed the sofa is 33" high but 34" on the sides. So now the picture is 39.5" high off the floor but in some spots of the sofa it is only 4.5" height and other spots only 5.5" higher than the sofa. The middle of the picture is 59.25" from the floor. In my sleep deprived state, it looks like the picture should be about 1/2" higher from the top of the sofa. I am going to wait another day before making a decision and try to take pictures for all of you. I am a little upset that I did not notice a tiny chip on the bottom of the frame but I got such a great price and the rest of the framed picture looks beautiful. The chip is very tiny. Do you think there is some kind of bronze pen that can fill it in? The beauty of the Japanese Garden is so perfect for my family room. The museum quality acrylic really is amazing allowing the picture to be so vibrant and gorgeous!...See MoreWhat to put above bed?
Comments (25)I would like something above the bed, but I think I'd prefer a grouping of 2 or 3 paintings or prints or a triptych to a single short and wide image. Maybe it's just the feel of looking out a high slit window that doesn't seem master BR cozy to me. The same artist as the one you posted does a triptych and since they are custom, you could get the size and colors you like -- send her the photo of your room and let her help you chose the colors to work perfectly in there (maybe some silver highlights to play off the nightstands without adding more mirror and softer contrasts than the one you posted). That link led me to this artist The painting is a word in braile and you could have something that has a special meaning to you and it still has that soft organic feel. She also has some with color(s) in the background. One other thing I thought about was Sticks and Stones. They do architectural photography series to create name or word of your choice. You have multiple options for each letter. I did our last name for DH at Christmas and was very happy with it. I put the link below for you. The square pillows are good colors, but the pattern seems a bit strong. Not terrible and may become more balanced with art on the wall and a throw on the bed, so I wouldn't rush to change, especially if you like them. The paisley pillows have great colors and softer lines, but they are still a bit bold for the room I think you are trying to put together. You have a beautiful room as it is, so take your time and find the perfect finishing touches. Any art should speak to you; especially when you see it everyday, you want it to mean more than a place filler. I have no doubt you will find something or have something created just for you. Wishing I hadn't seen the art on Etsy -- I want and I don't have any bare walls. If anything, I have one or two too many things to hang since we moved my dad recently. Which reminds me of what I should be doing..... Here is a link that might be useful: Sticks and Stones...See MoreDon't know what to put with new master bed linens!
Comments (36)I'd have to ask, I don't even think i have the packaging anymore--I took it out and washed it. Here's my actual headboard and chest, the X is not as prominent as I thought.. The dresser mirror has the X detail, but the dresser itself is plain like the chest. Excuse my mess...moving is brutal. Anyway, I wouldn't mind a new headboard, and I could always switch out hardware....See Morewoodteam5
