Culinox GL Copper Pans
Comments (7)i just bought a set at an auction and the manual was still with them.... here's a summary make sure before first use you fully soak them in boiling hot water and soda powder. not sure what the ratio is- perhaps online. this removes the "decorative lacquer" so they are prepared for cooking. copper will oxidize, making a rainbow sheen. if you don't like this, use SPRING copper cleaner prior to the use of the pot. dark brown spots appear when the decorative lacquer was not fully removed. these are difficult to remove. you can rub with acetone but this can be explosive. (then why would they suggest this??) never clean with powder detergents, pads or steel wool. will scratch surface. after each use, clean, rinse and dry- water spots can stain as well. the multiple layer sandwich material is copper outside followed by stainless steel, iron, and stainless steel inside. excellent thermal conductivity. no distortion- never heat an empty pan. years of cooking pleasure. hope that helped.......See MoreCopper pans on sale
Comments (1)GWlolo Thanks for listing this. I found the jam pot tempting also, but it doesn't look like it is stainless lined. I think I remember that jam pots are not. Unnecessary for jam, I guess, but I would want to use it for other foods as well. Don't think I am tempted by the others, but lovely pots....See MoreVery cute tiny seedling with copper-red cotyledons
Comments (3)Ah, thanks, macranthos -- I wasn't sure if these were what you were referring to in my post and photo of a couple days ago where you'd first suggested oxalias, since in that photo the cotyledons weren't red. But yes, maybe that photo was of some more-developed seedlings, after the cotyledons turned green? I'm now looking at that older photo, and yes: those green cotyledons have a reddish perimeter to them as if that coloration is a remnant of an earlier phase of growth. Browsing around the internet, I see in this description of Oxalis stricta on a Univ. of Florida web page: Seedling: Cotyledons often have a pink tint with alternate, trifoliate leaves with thin, heart-shaped leaflets that are creased in the middle Is he suggesting that even the cotyledons have trifoliate leaves? No, I don't think any cotyledons are trifoliate.I guess he's saying that after the cotyledons, the first true leaves are trifoliate. Here's the photo from that web page but I think this plant is still much older than mine: This web page of Oregon State Univ. says "Cotyledons are small and round...." and elsewhere I see this photo of the young Oxalis stricta plant with its cotyledons. Well, time will tell. I find myself strangely drawn to these tiny, mysterious seedlings....See MoreCopper shower pan on tonight's (1/6/22) This Old House
Comments (14)@HU-867564120. My surprise at the use of silicone to connect the drain to the copper pan is that I'm use to a brass drain being soldered to the pan and then a PVC 2" IPS adapter being used to glue it to the PVC drainpipe. That's what my plumber did in my shower. But all these methods seem a bit hokey to me. Anyway my plumber and tile guys were wedded to the copper pan and full mud bed so I went with it and then covered everything with Hydroban. 5 years in and It's working perfectly well, but next time I do a shower it will probably be something like a Kohler cast iron shower base and Laticrete board for the walls....See Moreaok27502
