Need help on making exterior look more modern and new!
Comments (7)I dont know about "modern" and "new" - would visually cohesive and attractive be good enough? Change some or all of the white (esp bay windows) to earthier, richer color that blends in with the brick instead of contrasting so strongly. You might start with looking closely at the brick and get paint samples to match some of the various browns/grays/reds in the brick.... and then maybe darker/grayer shade of whatever color you choose for the garage door. Some paint stores have color consultants who come out to your house, in exchange for buying x amount of paint. The brick is fine - its a nice variegated pattern. Its too bad people end up with stark white with red brick, because its not the most complementary color for it. I think because so many pre-made things like storm windows and gutters are white, ev else ends up being white by default. Sill, I think just getting the garage door, bay and the brick to all relate better to ea. other colorwise will do wonders. What color is the roof?...See MoreHelp with curb appeal- making 1950's small house look more modern
Comments (20)I think this house (already is really cute, and) would look great in a stark white/black combo or even off-black/black combo. I love shrubs but this one is big enough that the scale looks odd to me. You CAN rejuvenation prune it and see what happens. Or remove it go with the some spiky grasses, cast iron plants, a blue-green hosta, or if your climate allows, even snake plants. I think all of those would look great. I don't see colorful flowers in front of this one. And just for good measure, that house is so cute!...See MoreAny ideas on how to make exterior look more mid-century modern?
Comments (2)How much do you want to spend? or DIY? The carport is the overwhelming feature right now. Do you need it as a carport, or are you open to converting it to another use, like a sunroom or even just a covered porch? I think one thing that might work to reduce the impact of the carport but still keep it, is to remove the large filled in triangle below the carport roof, and replace it with a few horizontal wood beams, either stained or painted. Add some MCM looking wood trim around the doors and windows too, stained or painted to match. Add some stone looking cladding to match the house on the support columns. I think a color like the one on this house would look good -- with all the trim in either weathered wood, black, or cream as pictured...See MoreHow should I paint this basement to make it more modern looking?
Comments (4)If you paint everything one color, it will all blend together. You won't see the panels anymore. Is that cedar siding for the outside of a house on the wall in the back by the couches? You can remove that. What is your definition of modern? Do you mean all one and fresh? I'm asking because the furniture you have isn't modern. The flooring isn't either. So, pick a nice color that ins't dark and paint it all the one color, see if you like it. If you don't, you can change paint easily....See MoreJAN MOYER
