Cleaning Quartz counters?
Comments (9)Everyday cleaning: Any detergents usually used for polished surfaces may be used. Coloured liquids that come into contact with the surface should be cleaned immediately, when the stain is still fresh. The agglomerate material of quartz does not absorb liquid substances and the dirt that might be retained by the micro-knurling does not penetrate the material and can therefore always be removed. In the case of more persistent dirt, acid-based aggressive detergents may also be used. Avoid cleaning the surface with denatured alcohol which leaves streaks that are difficult to remove when it dries. Comments (7)We have granite counters and glass tile backsplash. I use the recipe for cleaner from this website. Alcohol, water, dawn & essential oil for aroma. (1/4 cup alcohol, 3 drops dawn, 5-10 drops essential oil (optional) into a spray bottle and fill rest with water) Works perfectly. I was told using windex on either the granite or the glass tiles would dull them over time. Tho I did live in a rental with black granite and used windex on it for years.....didn't see any changes in the granite....See MoreBest product to clean quartz counter with out harming it?
Comments (49)Honestly, I regret getting quartz. I thought I had read up on it enough before deciding on it, but I didn't come here, to houzz. If I knew that I had to use a trivet just to use a toaster or coffee pot, I wouldn't have bothered with it at all. I don't use a trivet for those things, but someone in the comments stated that all heat generating appliances should have a trivet when in use on the counter top. Also, it scratches very easily. I dropped a bowl on the counter. I was actually picking the bowl up off the counter and it just slipped. Couldn't have been more than 3 inches. It broke and it left a nice scratch. It's hard to see because the counter is white with grey veining. But I feel it when I wipe the counter. I wish I'd gone with granite, but I believed the salesperson when they said that it was basically indestructible...just don't set a 'hot off the stove' pan on it! And this place sold granite as well...so they could have sold me granite had they told me the truth. But I got tired of sealing granite and thought quartz was a fairly equal trade. It's not...See MoreLiquid Barkeeper's Friend, and cleaning quartz countertops.
Comments (162)Happy Update: After Joseph didn't respond to my PM, I called GranQuartz in Seattle, again. I figured if I was willing to pay for a flight and expenses for two, I could certainly offer a generous trip charge. Turns out, they lost my number and did have someone! He came and used the Quartz Renew. It was an all day job with all the taping to protect cabinets, etc and the fact that I did have more than one dull area from using BarKeep's Friend (which the original installers said to use). I've attached a picture of the same area as the one above in a previous post 8 months ago which showed one of the spots. I cannot see the previous spot at all! Quartz Renew really did the trick. (Any variation you see, like browner areas, is an artifact of the light. The countertop now looks very uniform.)...See Moreledmond10
