Used baking soda and water for oven cleaning. Bah

I saved a cleaning tip about using baking soda and water to clean an oven (this was before self-cleaning ones) and remembered I still had it and that it worked pretty well.

I do have a self cleaning oven, but I didn't want to run the whole cycle for only a slightly dirty oven and stink up the house, fan or no fan, so thought I'd give it a shot.

The results? Mixed at best even after spraying the mixture with vinegar. Before anyone gets overly excited, I checked with Whirlpool before I did this and the rep didn't see any problem doing this. But not ammonia as had been suggested by someone on another site. (Even I knew with an electronic ignition, it was still a big no-no.)

So much for saved cleaning tips.
