Before and after plans for Old Farmhouse
Comments (13)Hello, SweetAnnie, and welcome to the neighborhood. Our footprint on the earth is smaller than some, but we manage to LIVE LARGE. Oh yes, that French kitchen is a classic. I've thought about copper fixtures in the kitchen, and mostly decided to stick with stainless to match the appliances....BUT I do love copper pots. I also found some copper trays which I use for flower pot saucers, or for service boiled crawfish or boiled shrimp and crab. That is the way they do it in south Louisiana, and I like their style. I think I saw a bunch of copper containers in Pottery Barn home cat, and Williams Sonoma cat recently too. Lavender, if you get software for Christmas, please review it for us, so we know if it really works. I have Sweet Home which is free download, unless you wish to donate to them. Haven't figured it out totally, but did "furnish" our Alabama house. I even figured the square footage of that house, as it is now after bringing in the 10 x 10 sun porch and the 5 x 19 closet/bath bumpout, as being nigh on to 1000 square feet. By the time I redo the kitchen and add a wee bit to the master bedroom, another 180 sq feet, we will top out at 1180 feet. Or say 1200. Maximum. This is the floor plan I did with the Sweet Home software. I just upload it here to SHOW AND TELL. I won't describe what it represents on this thread, don't want to hijack Lavender's discussion. This is the two-dimensional plan. This is the three dimensional view...See MoreFarmhouse modern help
Comments (12)Nice home. Saw the saw … and the toilet: remodeling the bathroom? When the construction work/painting, etc. is done, make sure you find a way to "lose" the clutter in every room and you'll like the results of your remodel efforts a lot better. Your cherry cabinets look great -- don't change them. For decorative purposes, you might consider adding white painted box shelving above your existing cabinets -- replacing the short section of drywall above the cabinets. Open shelving can mix well with a modern farmhouse vibe and you could display treasures -- cookie jars, candy dishes, serving dishes, that you like but rarely use there. Alternately ... ... While I don't like wall paper for the walls generally, having some wall paper trim tape at the top of the wall at the ceiling can add interest t-- and a desired look -- to a kitchen with a short "wall" above the cabinets (overhead cabinets that don't go all the way to the ceiling or have an open space above them). Something … food or flower garden, perhaps? https://www.homedepot.com/b/Decor-Wallpaper/Border/N-5yc1vZbc0qZ1z17d1h You could paint every photo and mirror frame you have either all black or all white -- no brown left to clash. Less expensive than having them reframed. You could swap out overhead light fixtures for ceiling fans with lights with the modern farmhouse look you seek. Not a fan of the faux "candle" look for overhead lights....See MoreA Survey of Farmhouse Styles
Comments (27)And, because where you have farm houses, you have farm children, and therefore schools... Some one room schoolhouses from the same area This one has been purchases by the local hysterical, er, historical society. The plaque gives dates of establishment, when THIS building was erected, when it closed, etc. This one is the same brick style as many of the homes around it. The little "shed" entrance is a later (rather awful) addition. This one belongs to a local boy scout troop. Finally, this one was a private residence for a while. Then it was bought up by another local history group and restored pretty thoroughly:...See MoreWorking to Make This Old House More Modern Farmhouse
Comments (42)Seeing this late, but I particularly like the allocation of wall-take-down assessment to a builder, I'm surprised you didn't go further and say designer instead of architect, haha. Very nice house and still good for a laugh. I'm always so sad when you see cute old houses for sale or on TV that have been reduced to white-washed, wallless shells of their former selves. Some of those people on house hunters and flipping wherever make such horrid suggests for how they could make a cute house theirs....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
