Have to trade Zephrine Drouhin for floribunda rose
Comments (6)I have a mature and healthy floribunda 'Pink Simplicity' which blooms almost constantly that I needed to move this year... I recently pruned hard and potted into a 5 gal container. Would this interest you?...See MoreI ordered a Zephrine Drouhan, should I have gotten Aromatherapy?
Comments (6)Hi Julie! Actually I had been doing that to a limited extent with mint around the roses. Our deer are pretty aggressive, we have a steep hill right by our fence, and they stand up there to eat my 2 daylilly plants..ugh! I'm just going to station my dog out there every few nights during the growing season, that will show 'em! :) So far the only thing that helps is to put dead sharp sticks that are longer than the growth. I tried deer netting, but they eat the new growth..plus black snakes get tangled in it too. Argh! At least they haven't eaten my sweetbriar rose yet, and the good thing is I did have a few roses that were 'own root', so hopefully a few will come up. So far I've only seen 4 of them and they were all of that Dr Huey! Grr... That is a great suggestion though. I had some success spraying a garlic/oil/dishwashing mixture on the plants (and others like my fruit trees) last year....See MoreZephrine Drouhin -- mildew magnet??
Comments (7)Mine is mildewed now, too - mostly the new growth. It was better last year, but still had some disease. I've been considering replacing it. I don't spray fungicides, although spraying a blast of water early in the morning helps wash the mildew away - so long as it dries by evening, it's fine. Our cooler weather is promoting mildew - once it's reliably above 90 degrees for a number of days, then PM dies off. I have some mildew on a few other roses, but ZD is the worst. I certainly have the impression that ZD is a problem in California. I also don't get the repeat on it that I'd hoped to get, although it has scattered rebloom right now. My bet is that if you don't want to spray, and you want a clean plant in that highly visible spot, you need to replace ZD. Anita...See MoreZephrine Drouhin climber not blooming
Comments (16)Thanks for all the input! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. This is the first climber I've planted so I haven't known what to expect. I managed to kill a carpet rose...not very encouraging. Okay, the April freeze and then a (flooding) rain in May in this area may have contributed, as it was starting on it's 2nd season. Every nursery worker I talked to smirked as they said "You're not supposed to be able to kill those". Just my luck. I seem to be good at growing things but not getting them to bloom....I hope my kids turn out better than my plants. Thanks again!...See MoreVaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley
