Bathroom getting tiled NOW- Schluter Strip alternative?
Comments (29)https://tile-assn.site-ym.com/store/ViewProduct.aspx?id=3484938 The link I posted above which is the same link from 10 post's ago for the TCNA Handbook is what you need.(Tile Council of North America) If you are intending on walking your GC through this instead of getting a professional all the responsibility falls on your shoulders. Your GC is not competent enough to be taking on this project. If he was he would have researched the proper methods prior but instead he argues with you. You are making the choice now to be the GC. I think you are making a big mistake but it's your shower. Best of luck and I hope it all works out for you....See MoreTile most of the bathroom or tile the entire bathroom?
Comments (17)Sumod- The medicine cabinets are simple wood frames with a cabinet-grade plywood back that just sit in the stud cavity. Because of the dimensions, the front of the frame projects about 1"+ beyond the finished wall. The medicine cabinet doors are also plywood with veneered edges and they are attached to the frame with standard cabinet hinges (Euro hinges). The mirrors are just 1/4" plate glass ordered to size from a glass shop and held in place with mirror mastic and a metal strip at the bottom that you don't really see. The guy who did the cabinets just made the medicine cabinets as part of the job. I don't know about the door brand...we live in a large metro area that has lots of door shops and the doors are just solid core maple doors with the center cut out and a maple panel held in with molding. They're not stained; they simply have a couple coats of clear spray lacquer....See MoreSchluter strips versus bullnose tile?
Comments (16)I had never heard of Schluter trim before, but know what it is now that I just had my kitchen backsplash tiled. The tile contractor said he was measuring for tile and bullnose when he came out, but when his guys did the job, they used the Schluter product. In an older, classic Colonial home. Filled with antiques. With subway tile. I am LIVID. They ran out of field tile on Friday afternoon and left for the weekend, and I haven’t yet had a chance to talk to the owner or his wife, who is useless. She actually called to ask if I would schedule them on short notice due to a cancellation and then blew me off without calling when another job ran over. Alarm bells should have gone off, but I’m apparently stupid because stuff like this keeps happening to me. I suspect they used the Schluter either because they forgot to order bulnose (all of 5 feet would have been enough) or because it’s faster to install. Or both. Maybe it’s ok in a modern house or contemporary installation, but it looks terrible in my very traditional kitchen....See MoreTransition strip opinion for the bathroom
Comments (7)Here's an update! Not bad for our first time doing tiles ourself . Far away looks good but if you look up close . You can spot the imperfections. Might do a traditonal wood strip or a rubber strip "saw it on Pinterest somewhere & it look pretty nice "...See Morenumbersjunkie
