Help! My front door opens into my bedroom.

I just moved into a one bedroom apartment and the front door (on the upper left) opens right into the bedroom. I am having the hardest time trying to design an entry way and create somewhat of a separate area for my bedroom. I would also like some privacy when I bring home guest so that they won't stand in the middle of my bedroom as soon as we walk in. I am currently using cheer curtains as a room divider but it makes my bedroom really small and still leaves the front door in sight from the bed. And because of the sliding door (middle right) I am unable to hang the curtains a bit further from the bed. Any ideas or suggestions would be great! Also because there is absolutely no daylight in this room I can't turn this room into the living room so I am stuck this entryway bedroom.

Can you post a floorplan of the whole apartment?

A living room without daylight would be better than a bedroom right at the front door imo, but is that not a window on the left?

I am confused it looks like the door opens into what should be the LR so why did you put your bedroom there?It looks like there aew windows in both spaces

I get confusing information when I check the Liftmaster parts. I find you should be using 81LM rather than 61LM. I do know that Sears still sells the remote for your opener. Their part number is 53778. It may not be available at the retail store but is available at their parts depots. If you are dealing with a Liftmaster dealer they should have the correct info for you.

I think the teal color would be pretty and if you keep your yellow planters that would be a nice combo. Are you going to paint your shutters or the piece behind the light? The door knob and handle changed to a black would help tie it together as you have a black roof, a black light and some black brick. But from a safety point, I would like to make a suggestion: Have you thought about getting a wrought iron rail for the porch to keep your little one from falling off or when going up the stairs? If you removed the larger plant in front of the stair and added a black rail, this would be another design element (and safer too!).

It's entirely possible that a header does span across the entire opening. Possible that the house originally had sidelights that were removed (or covered up). For reasons of energy efficiency or concerns about security and/ or privacy. Or the door was being replaced and the owners didn't want to shell out for a door with $idelights. One suggestion for a quick and relatively inexpensive way to improve the looks would be to remove the applied molding and install raised panel shutters on either side of the door. Various widths are available; the height should be standard. You'll be able to get close enough, I think, without having to resort to a full custom wood shutter.

Hi Lindsey, I just added my floor plan which shows my bedroom on top. There is indeed a window next to my bed but it looks straight into the building next to it and it feels really to dark so spend time in during the day. But if you have any suggestions I would definitely love to hear them!

I can't really get a clear picture of the space from what you have provided. But maybe you could use some sliders to close off the area - some sort of sliding doors, maybe barn doors - there are many options with that. But, again, really need a better idea of the space. Personally, I would not care if there was absolutely zero light in the entry room - I would not make that my bedroom. You can bring in artificial light - all sorts of lighting options to compensate for that. You can also create a lighter/brighter feel in the space with paint colors and décor. Perhaps seriously consider switching the rooms. Other than that - post pics of the actual space. You may get more suggestions that way.

Hi Patricia, when I looked at the place it was presented to me with the bedroom in front. Because the other room is langer, has an open kitchen layout and a balcony (bottom left) it is more ideal as a living room but I agree that the bedroom in the front doesn't make a lot of sense either.

Really, I would use the bedroom as the living space despite the bad view and poor lighting. Add lamps.

Use the living area as your bedroom. Get a wardrobe system from Ikea to create a wall between the kitchen and the bedroom. I would position it perpendicular to the right wall, extending 7' or so and leaving a gap between the back side of the wardrobe and the wall of the utility room.

Or turn your bed so the head is on the other wall, if your room is too short for it to go on the window wall and still leave room to open the wardrobe doors.

I believe you may have to settle for a small bedroom with partitioning, but that may be best so you can have more living area. I would position your bed in the space you had shown now except put the headboard on the wall opposite the window, put in a partition system like what Lindsey paralell and put in an actual bedroom door. You could build your closet system around, in front of that window area and obscure it. I wouldn't worry about the lighting for the bedroom because there's so much you can do with lighting, even imitating natural daylight. I would remove the sliding door that you described and leave an open walkway there.

I would talk to the landlord about building a wall with a door to separate the front hall from the bedroom.

Everything is one! You do not have a bedroom! A Bedroom is a separate room of a Dwelling where one sleeps! You can have a bed area But Never a bedroom! Deal with the front door!

Absolutely move your bed to the back room. @miss lindsey (She/Her)'s suggested bed placement w/ free-standing wardrobes or bookcases to separate that space from the kitchen is perfect. Looks like you'd still have room for a small seating area along the back left wall in addition to the living room in the front. I say embrace a cozy living room with lamps if natural light is not its strong suit.

Can you take a pic of the front entrance so I can see exactly what you speak of because from the beginning it sounds like a studio apartment?
