Quartz counter tops
Comments (49)We've only had our Cambria quartz counter top for about 1 month and I LOVE it!! I did want more of a shine but find it is not very shiney at all : ( But is sounds like more prefer the less shinier type. Around here the popular ones are Oxford, Nottingham and Victoria from what the dealer told me. I like them too and thought that one of those would be my choice but ended up choosing the new Cranbrook Quarry series just because it went better with the cabinets. Preston and Brownhill were also very nice. I was able to take the small 4"x4" sample home for a few days to decide. I can barely see the seem and love how it cleans. Haven't put anything REALLY hot on it, like a slow cooker, and probably won't just because I'm scared to LOL. Here are some pics.......total cost $5700 (install & tax)...See MoreStay away from these counter tops
Comments (228)I would advise you avoid doing business with AZ tile and Dean Jessup specifically. We had a horrible experience with them. Don't expect them to act with integrity or stand behind their product. We used a fabricator that was a personal referral from him. When we had discoloration and fingerprints that wouldn't come off of our Della Terra quartz he informed me I must have "scarred" it by cleaning with a paper towel. ( I called him within an hour of the fabricator leaving). We paid beyond stone to buff it with a cleaner at their recommendation. It mostly resolved the issue although as a result of the buffing the gloss and sheen no longer match our perimeter counters. Best we can figure out the fabricator applied turtle wax or something similar to disguise striations around the sink cutout. Which is why fingerprints couldn't be cleaned off. We still have some smudges. Bottom line rather than try to help us resolve the issue he was hostile and accusatory. He said the fabricator (a friend of his apparently) said it was fine so we must have done something. Do business with them at your own risk....See MoreNow, can I mix non-black granite and white marble counters?
Comments (12)Hi 3Daisies, I love the combinations of two different countertops. Seeing some in person and gorgeous photos on GW, I have been swayed. I love the look. And don't be afraid of movement. I know you are looking for something simple but the right rock will look amazing. Have you thought about Jet Mist (Virginia Mist granite) Some have lots of movement but I saw some very simple grayish black slabs with almost no pattern. This looks like soapstone but works like a granite. It could be an option for you. Butcher Block, Quartz Black, Pearl Gray, Blue Pearl (Which can look gray), Slate, Soapstone, Nordic Black Granite, Azul Aran (has movement but looks nice with white marble) .... so many to list. Here are some ideas, to keep your mind working on this wonderful kitchen. In time you will find your favorite combination and it will look great. ~boxerpups AnneKendo's Kitchen from Garden Web post Colleen Mill's Kitchen from Garden Web post This is the same on island as counter but it is lovely and I thought you might like this as an idea. Comments (32)Kathy642 - While Kevdp4 said "that no product is bullet proof", my experience is that indeed, some granites are bullet-proof. I've had mine for 8 years, and it looks like the day it was installed, I don't baby it, and I have never sealed it. What is important to realize is that there are thousands of granites, and you can't just lump them all under one umbrella--they vary in how bullet-proof they are. What you should google when you find a granite you like is its "absorption rate". The lower the absorption rate, the more dense the granite, the more bullet-proof. Probably the most dense is Absolute Black, which has an absorption rate of 0.05-.15%. My granite, called either Piracema or Wave, is quite low at 0.1-.3%, and has never needed sealing. By contrast, a granite that does need to be sealed frequently or it will stain is Imperial White with an absorption rate of 0.35-.45%. Other dense granites that are bulletproof are Blue Pearl, Ubatuba, Black Galaxy, Verde Peacock, Verde Butterfly, Platinum Pearl, Volga Blue. There are many more. I mentioned Absolute Black as the most dense, but the problem with it is that it is so black that it shows every speck of dust and reflects the overhead lights. When you go to a stone yard and see a granite you like, ask to bring home a sample, and do things to the sample like spill coffee or red wine on it and see what happens....See Moredough71
