Why? The "different' color is usually a different material as well, such as brick or stone.. Don't reinvent a wheel. A house has four sides, pick a color , one color, and paint : )

Not a fan- where I see this sometimes around my (urban)neighborhood is low budget rental housing where the landlord only paints or puts new siding on the front, presumably to save money. Unless there is some specific design purpose specific to your house... maybe some unique modern architecture you are wanting to emphasis.... I wouldnt do it

I think uncommon. I used to have a neighbor who was a commercial painter. Often, his house walls had different colors, subtle differences. He said he did this because he got the paint for free, the colors were similar, and his wife liked changing the color of the front of the house every 5 years.

I currently have a neighbor who just finished painting his house. The front is lighter than the sides, and one back wall is a mural. One cannot see the front and sides at the same time. Foliage prevents this.

I don’t know about complementary color, maybe if the complementary color difference is subtle or white.

@najeebah it's actually the architect that suggested it. I was considering medium greige for the front and light greige/gray for the rest.
