Choosing a hearth stone

We are renovating the main living areas in our house. My inspiration photo is attached. The walls will have board and batten wainscoting two thirds the way up with Sherwin Williams Amazing Grey on the top. The fireplace will look a lot like this except only two rows of squares because our ceilings aren't quite as high. We also don't have angled edges, so the hearth will just be a big rectangle. I'm considering using the stone in the second photo but I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I looked at slabs today but couldn't find exactly what I was picturing. The best option I think I found was black granite in a leathered finish. I'm just wondering if the black will be too much of a contrast with the mostly white paneled walls. The house will have a craftsman/transitional feel when we finish if that helps. Thoughts?
