I don't know that I mind that combination: all chrome and nickel sconces. Maybe do a mock-up? Can you order the sconces and have a chrome back-up plan? I planned on using all chrome and had installed a chrome shower/tub fixtures. Then I picked scones in antique nickel, so even though I had chrome in the shower, I decided to do polished nickel everywhere else. Well none of the nickel finishes match either, the sconces are "antique" and the faucet is noticeably warmer tone than the cabinet hardware and towel ring. I'm really happy with the look! But if I did it over, I probably would have just had the sconces in nickel and kept chrome everywhere else. I think my fear of the chrome fixtures mismatching the nickel sconces was unfounded. Chrome would have been cheaper and easier to pick a towel hook, TP holder, etc. Here's a pic of the vanity area. The chrome isn't in this view, but the mismatched nickels are. I think your choice is a bit riskier but I wouldn't discount the option off hand.

I think polished nickel is warmer than polished chrome. Nickel has a bit more red spectrum than chrome (blue spectrum). Polished anything will tend to show prints more than brushed. In a master bath it's generally not problem though, it's more in a kids' bath. "Upgrade" is a choice. Remember "upgrade" doesn't always mean it's better quality or it fits better into your design scheme. If you want to upgrade for personal reasons or if you need a certain look to carry off a certain style/design element, that's one thing. You want the warmth of nickel, you want no polished surfaces, or you need the darkness of ORB, etc. However, I've seen designers try to strong arm customers into "upgraded" finishes by preying on their "keeping up with the jones'" insecurities. I realize I'm not really answering your question. I guess in some obscure way I'm encouraging you to design your master bath for yourself and not for your next door neighbors. Best, Mongo

Polished chrome is shiny silver with blue undertones, while polished nickel is a softer silver with yellow undertones, almost like sterling silver. We are in the middle of a bath remodel and they just installed all my new NICKEL hardware yesterday. I thought it would be fine with all the chrome fixtures but the difference is very obvious. Just ordered all new CHROME hardware 15 minutes ago. This is my laundry room, too, so there's a lot of hardware. )-8 A few people have reported unsightly tarnish and wear with the nickel. Our kitchen faucet is nickel and it still looks perfect after two years, so not all nickel finishes are the same.

I think it's a matter of personal preference and it's not wrong to mix them if the diffence in their "warmth" doesn't bother you. And I think that sconce would look amazing in polished nickel! I have a similar situation in my guest bath. We already had chrome faucets and I really wanted the lights in polished nickel. I have to admit, I would prefer my polished finishes to match because I worry that they are similar enough that it looks like I just couldn't quite get it right. I recognize that is my issue and that most people probably wouldn't pay as much attention. Here's a photo of one side of the double vanity. We're finishing our 10 1/2 month masterbath reno this weekend and, after taking a month off to regroup, we're going to take on this bathroom next. It will be a much lower budget project and some of the same elements will stay... including probably my mismatched finishes!
