non-tile ideas for backsplash?
Comments (13)Thanks all for the great ideas. Thought about paint - I may ending up doing that . I will need to put something whjere the wall and counter meet- a strip of a metal or tile like metal something. I also thought about painting rectangles with magnetic paint. Hey lightly starched- I checked out ALsa Corp- interesting but not right for my kitchen. I Elizgonz- I did cechk with local glass shops and priced the Spandrel which is tempered glas with paint on the back -it would come out to $100 sq ft- a little pricey. THanks all for the input. I appreciate it. PJS...See Morepics or suggestions for NON-white backsplash tiling in white kitchen
Comments (14)Hi eam44, I've looked at hundreds upon hundreds of white kitchen cabinets. And very few of them have non-white backsplashes. So, I guess I was hoping to find some inspiration images through this post. We are building our home, so we have to pick our options or upgrade to options not provided by the builder. I don't want to spend a lot on tiles b/c we've pretty much upgraded everything else in the kitchen and just want the tiles to accent, but not stand out, so as to not compete against our 90" x 60" walnut island countertop. So, I'm looking for tiles to add warmth, but not add attention. Oh, but there are so many beautiful tiles at glasstileoasis.... Comments (36)Omg Sherri! That's gorgeous tile! I love the way the light hits the slight waviness in the handmade tiles and sparkles. What brand and color tile is that? You MUST do a reveal because I know people here will go crazy for your backsplash and your entire kitchen. Oh and is that soapstone too? I love the slab drawers with that glass front cab that has the glass on the side to. You have an excellent tile setter because you cannot see any slope in the ceiling at all. And look at the little cuts he did for that outlet? Are you kidding me...he's a perfectionist. (Actually, I should edit that your tiler could just as well be a woman. I'm gonna try this myself!) You are very fortunate. Have you seen the crazy hacked tile threads lately? I hope I don't end up one.... Okay, I think I just hijacked my own thread. LOL! But, seriously please, please do a reveal. It doesn't need professional photos. Yours above are great....See MorePaint color?drywall/backsplash tile/granite counter-log home kitchen
Comments (11)Thanks Patricia...paled grayed green sounds appealing-Ill look at those colors...as for cabinets-yes, theyll be installed directly on the log wall...we're blessed with an amazing cabinetmaker who is skilled in log home cabinet installation....we also have kiln dried logs-so they wont shrink/settle too much. Ill attach a pic (not a great one, but the only I could find at the moment) of the lower furing wall we had originally built for the lowers--then tore out-because that would have made a backsplash stick out several inches-a ledge--it would have looked weird, & would have pushed fridge & cabinets out too..eating up several inches of kitchen space. So, we took out the furing wall-moved the fridge outlet to the corner, literally, of the log wall & drywall (can see it in my 1st pic of original post-midway up the wall) & plumbing was able to come up through the floor instead of the wall-I conceded & instead of a wall switch am doing an air switch in counter for disposal-only thing left was switch for over sink light-which for convenience-I wanted near the sink-so we're doing a shallow mount light switch under the upper cabinet, to right of sink-unconventional I believe-but a good tradeoff in my mind. Our cabinetmaker is making the upper cabinet rails a little longer anyway for lights/outlets under the cabinets-so I think it will work out ok. I may need to always point out to guests where that switch is-but worth it in order to have a normal 4" granite backsplash on the log wall. The tile will cover the open areas on the drywall/range side--including behind the chimney hood. Sooo..thats the plan-its been one of those ongoing challenges that went on for quite some time-& we finally got everyomes input & solved the problem..yay! :) Now for the fun stuff :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
