Design Dilemma entry Home Decorating

Corner decor / entrance way question.

hello! I am really struggling with this corner in my house.The corner is located at the bottom of the stairs accross them and the rest of the house.

I decided to put a 30' round table to try to decorate it as an entrance way table (I haven't bought decor yet for the table). Now I feel like the walls are super bare. What should I do? a mirror facing towards the rest of the house or facing the stairs?

The round table looks super-squeezed into the corner. But if you bring it out away from the walls, I assume it would be in the way.

So, instead, I'd get a rectangular table, no deeper than 18" or so, and put it flat against the wall, facing you, as you look at Picture #1. With a mirror above it, facing you.

I had the same thought -- figure out which face you will be looking at most and just put a flat table and art/mirror there. That should work as an entry table fine.

I do have a rug on the floor right now - it's one of those round black ones from Ikea at this link: http://bit.ly/1GiC51L I would like to find a new one to go in that space, something that won't compete so much with the Marimekko on the wall, but isn't too blah and won't show so much dirt if people wipe their shoes on it. I do have a doormat outside, but people don't wipe their feet on that and choose to wipe it on the indoor rug instead. It won't compete so much colour-wise with the large Marimekko panel that's there right now. OK, so if I swap out the coat rack/shelf that's there now with a coat rack tree with a small footprint and tucked it behind the door rather than have the door open up to the coat rack, then would that work? Would the Marimekko look fine where it is now in that case or should I then move it to the wall that the coat rack/shelf is on right now?

I would get a 4'x6' or 5'x7' and run it horizontally in front of door and then get a long co-ordinating runner to run lengthwise down the hall. How many feet would that be? I would probably end before the stub out past the stairway and you will want some space between the two rugs. I would definitely go with some pattern and color, for interest, as well as not showing footprints/soil, etc. A nice bench on wall in front of stairway would be nice. I really can't see the area the foyer encompasses. edited-I just saw the first picture of the foyer. it doesn't look like there is any place to put anything there, unless I'm missing something.

Having suffered from this problem for many years in the past, I quickly discovered that if one inhibits spraying in one place, a cat will just find a new place. A cat who decides to spray is nearly impossible to stop. I tried various medications etc - nothing worked. And yes, the last cat lived to be 18. At that time, much as I love cats, I decided no more kitties - just couldn't take the chance.

So for the back door, get a bench fir the right side, this will give you a space to put your most commonly used/snowy/wet/muddy shoes and a place to put them on. It also will give that area more symmetrical. Second, I dont have measurements but it looks like there's a lot of extra space in the kitchen. You can add an island make from stock/found cabinets (try nextdoor app) and use butcher block or just a 1.5 inch thick top. You can extend the top out 1/3 the distance of the cabinets depth. This will give you a place for a few bar stools. Lastly, I'd move the table back towards the wall that's seen in the 2nd photo. The dresser can go on the wall opposite the cabinet to store anything you need if there isn't room to keep it where it is. If you have measurements, it would help to make sure there's enough room and extact placement but I think it might work.

Thanks! I was thinking of putting a mirror on the wall facing me in picture 1 and maybe a large artwork on the other wall?

Agree with the first commenters. Rectangular side table that has limited width and a nice ornamented mirror above it. Maybe the side table can have some drawers in it at the top, so it would actually be useful for that last touch with the hairbrush or your lipstick. Like such tables:

Another form is possible too, as long as the width stays within limits.

Don't fill the table top with nicknacks. Maybe one lamp where the walls meet and then something to put small things in (like keys) or something to place new mail on. Nice flower arrangement and done.

Then some beautiful art on the other wall. Would be nice if the art would match the style of the table and mirror.

Now to go for something entirely different could also be nice. Like if you have a beautiful collection of something and it is spilling over from other rooms. So place a - small in width - open bookcase in there to display it. Like:

That makes your house very personalized and not thirtheen in a dozen for sure.

getting a different table is out of the question as I cannot return this one. I was thinking of a window frame style mirror and maybe a family wall on the other side? or would that be too Crowded?
