Comments (28)This bill has NOTHING to do with socialism and EVERYTHING to do with capitalism. The profits of big agriculture are written all over this bill. I've spent weeks 'dissecting' every word in the bill and researching the co sponsors and the wretched politicians that wrote it , you should do the same. It does in fact impact farmers markets or any vegetable that is sold or meant for human consumption. It makes all growers comply with industry regulations ie insect control/pest nematodes, bacterial disease control and on and on. It hardly impacts the current agriculture monopolies and impacts the small farmers that don't have the resources to comply with regulations. Tom Vilsak (one of the bills authors) is heavily in favor of large industrial farms and genetically modified crops. Political spin confuses people, it is not about socialism per say , if we want to be intellectually honest HR 875 was born out of corporate monopolies infiltrating Washington with their money and influence. This bill is capitalism out of control, paradoxically the profit motive of corporate monopolies is behind this bill. They see the threat of small farmers and back yard growers and they want to stop it. This is all about $ business $....thats capitalism for you....See MoreMosquito Control
Comments (12)I am wondering if any of you live in a community where Malathion is sprayed. I do, and I hate it. THe city and the county both insist that it is effective, but there are several times when I've been out running and that truck comes by spraying and I have nowhere to hide. Though I have stopped and covered my face, my mouth and throat completely dry out, and I know this stuff is harmful. They don't spray late enough for people to be out of the way, claiming that the mosquitoes are most active at dusk. Children, families, runners and tourists are active at dusk, also. I have sought to find research on this which would validate stopping the spraying program. I am willing to go before City Council if I can find anything; however, most of what I have discovered online tends to insist that malathion isn't a threat to people. Do any of you have sources of information out there which may (a) indicate that malathion is not safe for humans and (b) indicate that the spraying program is not effective any way. Thanks for indulging me with this long message, but when I saw a "mosquitoe discussion," I had to weigh in. Mike in Myrtle Beach, SC...See MoreMosquito problem in mediterrenean coast
Comments (6)No, there's no way to deal with the tank. I'm renting the house and the previous tenant was an englishman who invented some kind of solar energy water heater. Now remain from that three destroyed water tanks huge and heavy, the two of them are broken and empty but the third keeps this little water in it. I even thought to shoot it near the basis, but I only have some funny air-gun that's no good. Then again I might discover some electric drilling maschine and some cable long enough to bring electricity from 100 meters away where is the kitchen and perhaps... But wouldn't be dangerous to drill while inside there's water? Thanks for the mosquito dunks, found some cheap in the net, had no idea about them, hope they will not be toxic for the birds, though... Plenty of the wild ones visit my garden cause I feed them. I also have dogs, in case that any of the liquid might escape somehow from the tank, this couldn't be dangerous for them? I'm just a middle-aged woman alone and was patient till now with the mosquitos, all of a sudden I had to revolt, I'm fed up and enough is enough with them....See MoreMosquito control?
Comments (20)citronella works to an extent, but not always. we get them so bad around here that even with multiple citronella lamps and pots burning in a circle around us they will come in. heaven forbid if we get a flooding rain in june, you cannot go outside at dark the rest of the summer. the MOST effective way i have found, though not quite affordable yet, is a home spraying system which uses pyrethrium. the price is around 5k for my house, then 150-200 a month after that. but it works, not jus tfor mosquitos but ALL insects. and it is non toxic. the spray is just a natural extract from chrysanthemum or something, i can't remember exactly. you can turn the system off manually if you are going to be outside during a shcedule spray cycle, but even if you don't it won't hurt you....See Moreraee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio
