Soak dried shrivelled rhizome before planting?

One nursery where I buy bulbs had iris rhizomes as well. These were not packaged, but just had a tag rubber banded to them. I had not planned to buy any, but one was loaded with all these small baby rhizomes on each side, with green sprouts starting. It was just begging to be taken home. (And I am easy persuaded).

Should I soak it before planting? If so, for how long? It is November and below freezing at night, I don't want to kill by doing this.

It has quite a large, tennis ball sized ball of roots underneath. They are very dry and I know most will crack off if I attempt to unbend them enough so that I can get the actual rhizome in contact with the soil. Thanks for your help.
